Default TV powers up when PVR starts recording??

Sorry, noob question I'm sure, but I'm new to the forum and new to the wonderful world of HD and PVRs.

Just bought a couple of Sharp Aquos tv's and a couple 3416 HDPVRs - upstairs for general viewing and downstairs for hockey season . Anyways, every time my wife sets a future recording, the tv will power on (muted) when the recording kicks in. Probably a simple fix but I'm stumped.

Thanks in advance.

Are you using an HDMI connection between the cable box and the TV. If so, the TV is turning on when it detects a new HDMI signal at the input. The cable box "turns on " if it is powered off and a recording starts so the cable box probably sends a TV power on command signal to the TV via the HDMI cable. My cable box is always on so I don't see this behaviour but I see with a Blu-ray disc player. If I manually turn the Blu-ray palyer on and the TV is off it turns itself on.

My Samsung TV does this with a feature called Anynet+(HDMI-CEC) which passes device control commands through the HDMI connection. Check your TV manual for this feature or a similar one. I can turn it on or off for the Samsung TV. Enabling it allows the cable box to turn the TV on when it is powered up.
