Default Shaw to launch AMC in HD

From hot new episodes of Mad Men to top films from every genre, Shaw and Shaw Direct customers will be the first in Canada to watch AMC in High Definition (AMC HD) starting September 1, 2009.

AMC HD will offer viewers outstanding original programming, including episodes from season three of the Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning series, Mad Men, Emmy award-winning series Breaking Bad and the highly-anticipated mini-series The Prisoner in November. AMC HD will also offer movie buffs extensive film choices in broad-based genres from every decade.

Shaw and Shaw Direct HD customers will enjoy three free months of AMC HD. From December the channel will be available as part of Shaw's HD Plus package and Shaw Direct's HD Extra package.

Good news. Even better news because I've already got the plus package!

Good news as far as Mad Men goes. I can't stand AMC's movie editing though

Oh well, as long as it comes with the package I already have for no extra money I won't complain about another HD channel.

I have to agree with that statement 110% in regards to the editing for content in the movies they play. The commercials I can deal with due to the PVR skipping. But overall I'm glad to have more choice in HD channels and I hope for more to come in the near future.

Typical american censorship, no cussing or sex, but killing hundreds of people with lots of blood perfectly fine.

I prefer the TCM movies. They may be old but at least they aren't censored or "made to fit your screen" or clipped to make room for commercials. If AMC 'must' show commercials, show them between movies instead of those other 'fillers' they currently air. European telecasters have shown blocks of commercials between features for decades and it doesn't seem to hurt their viewership.

I, too, will be happy to receive AMC in HD.

Looks like AMC HD will be going onto channel 225 on Sept 1st and The Frame HD will be shifting to 230. Enjoy the new HD movies I know I will. (Can't beat The Duke in HD)

Sorry to correct you but shouldn't AMC HD should be on ch 225 instead of ch 226? That's HBO Canada HD.

Just one more sleep and then...AMC-HD!

I don't care if I've already seen this week's episode, I'll watch it again in HD just for the joy of it.

I hope there are plenty of closeups of the secretarial pool!

Well this is what, the first new HD channel in HOW long? I can't complain, but I just hope AMC shows ALL of their films in OAR like HDNet.

As much as I like Mad Men, I would much rather have TCM ih HD because of their uncut movies.

Yes, at least there you don't end up with stuff like "I've had it with these monkey-fighting snakes on this monkey-fighting plane!"

I tried watching "Usual Suspects" on there once and had to stop when they got to the police line up scene. They had them all say "Give me the keys you fairy god mother!"

Oh well, at least it is a new channel.
