Sony’s VPL-VW85 isn’t on retailers’ shelves yet, nor has it had its official launch (that’ll be at the IFA electronics show in September) but that hasn’t stopped HCC getting its mitts on one before anyone else.

While we’re still putting it through its paces in our Tech Labs, we can offer you our first impressions of this highly-anticipated product.

What is the Canadian MSRP of this puppy? I imagine nothing short of a lottery win would enable me to purchase this projector.

By all accounts, it seems to have good black levels and contrast, a noticable step up from the HW15, and compete's with the JVC RS projectors. Also, the frame interpolation and/or dark frame insertion seems to be a nice feature for some, at least in one of the modes, particularly for sports.

Is anyone going to step up to the plate on this one?
