Default Sirius XM iPhone dock due next week?

Sirius XM is about to launch a wave of new satellite radio devices that could include the first-ever add-on radio dock for the iPhone, a rumor asserts this evening. The satellite radio provider has reportedly sent invites for a New York press event on August 26th that will not only update Sirius XM's regular technology but also introduce an accessory for Apple devices known as the SkyDock.

I'm really curious as to what app you will need on the iPhone to use this. If it's the existing Sirius/XM app, those of us in Canada with a US subscription are totally screwed.

well, while I don't expect them to accomodate people that are not sub'ing to the correct country as above, it would be nice for them to do something with genuine Canadian subscribers. However I suspect we will again be left in the dark on this one. It would be nice to be able to use my ipod touch to stream my Sirius sub.

I have an iphone and a US based subscription, but can't get the Sirius XM App because it's not offered with Itunes Canada. I fear it would be the same problem with this new gadget.

The SkyDock is only for XM, not Sirius. Oh and it's easy to get free apps from the US iTunes store, just sign up for a free US account and download the free US apps on your PC. Then sync.

How do you get past the credit card screen, Canterbury? That's where I get hung up.

You don't need to enter a credit card, you can just bypass that as I recall. It's been a while since I set up my US iTunes account. Do a Google search for Skype Iphone in Canada and it'll tell you how to get the US account all sorted. It's for Skype, but same deal will work here.

I did it a couple of weeks ago (also for Skype for the iPhone). What you do is: log out of your iTunes account, switch to the US store, find a free iphone app and try to download it. It will prompt you to create a new account, use a separate email account (create one if you need to) and put in a bogus US address (i.e. use the address of a hotel). Since the app you've selected is free it will give you an option of "none" beside the payment types that you usually see.

Once you have your new US itunes account, on the iphone log out of your regular one and log in temporarily (on the iphone) with the new one. Then go to the store and download the app. When you sync your iphone on your computer it will merge the apps into your regular account where you have all of the other apps.

Works like a charm. Too bad they make us jump through these hoops though.

I just ordered a Skydock from the US. I'm looking forward to using it. I downloaded the app via the US iTunes store. I will post my findings.

Calgary,
I downloaded the App from the US store but the login on the Ipod won't accept my credentials for Sirius.
I think they separated the US account users and the Canadian account users who can listen online.
How did you get to listen to it with a Canadian Sirius subscription?

The Skydock application is only for XM, not for Sirius.

If you mean the standard streaming app, it's only available for the US at the moment.

You can use it, you just need to log into iTunes with a US account, and download the free app. Then activate the Skydock as you would any XM radio. I have a Skydock on it's way, and will report back after I get it going.

I installed the Skydock last night. It works great. The display is nice and bright, and rather than having a few other channels visible on the display, like the Xpress RC, you can swipe left or right to see the other channels, and what is playing on them.
If I had any complaint, it would be that the Skydock stalk is fairly short. I have a 2008 Civic, and the power outlet is right down near the gear shift lever. It barely reaches the heater controls when plugged in. I prefer the display to be closer to eye level, considering all the concerns about driving distractions.
And you can play your iPod toons through the Skydock. That's a BIG plus!
