Default Rogers TV Call Display Discussions

Rogers is planning to introduce an enhancement to its Home Phone service called TV Call Display. When a call is received the caller's name and phone number will appear on the customer's television screen.

The service will be available at no extra charge to Rogers Home Phone customers who subscribe to Rogers Call Display and Rogers Digital TV.

The roll out of this service is expected to start this Fall.

Requested & functionality discussed in the following posts:

Guess rRep came through. This is great news.

This may include new firmware for our STBs since this is part of the digital STB firmware options...

I don't have Rogers phone so it doesn't really apply to me.

However, I'm assuming that there is a way to disable this.

I wonder if it can be used for mobile phones?

Time Warner introduced this feature about a year ago. In their case, CD could be turned off in the settings. I assume that Rogers will implement the same functionality.

It's easy to implement for Rogers Home Phone since the signal is already in the RF-coax cable and just needs to be detected/displayed by the STB firmware. For wireless, the signal would have to go from your wireless account to the RF-coax going to your home. Probably not impossible, but probably not going to happen unless there are a lot of requests for it.

There is an option to share one voicemail box between Rogers Home Phone and Rogers Wireless, so it may be possible to see your "New Voicemail" indication on the TV if you have things set up that way.

Yes, I experienced this exact service when renting a house in Florida. It too was a Scientific Atlanta receiver setup..worked really well. There 8300 software also allowed for channel logo's...but same GUI essentially.

While both my home & cell phones share the same voice mail, I have my cell phone configured so that any unanswered calls get forwarded to my home phone and then to voice mail, if still unanswered. I also have the voice mail configured so that it sends an email to my cell phone. This way I have everything covered. With this TV call display, I'll be able to know which calls to ignore. I have one home phone (of four) with call display, but it's in my computer room and not near the TV.

It will appear on any TVs connected to a digital STB and with the option enabled. (It can be disabled as indicated earlier). It will not work on analogue only service as mentioned in post 1 - you need digital.

I assume that all digital STBs will get updated firmware to allow this.

Default Answers to questions

I'm with the Rogers social media team and have answers to a couple of the questions asked here. Yes, the service can be disabled by the customer, and no, it won't be available for wireless phones.

Thanks for the info, Keith.

Great to see Rogers having a decent presence in the online world.

Rogers is not available here in NS. Bell offered this, but StarChoice did not, and now I am with Eastlink, which uses a cable phone modem, so it should be possible, but it is not currently an option. It's a great feature, kudos to Rogers.

This might be something that would get me to switch my phone from Bell to Rogers but my only fear is that it is free now but will Rogers change this later on and add a fee?

Cheers,

I do not see an additional fee coming into effect beyond the normal call display option/fee that people need to pay on their Rogers home phone. This is based on previous experience with other providers, so no guarantees, but it is unlikely.

No fee, but perhaps a wee bit of adverts may crop up was my thought.
