Just wanted to mention I live in Gatineau, Quebec (Aylmer Secteur) and I just wanted to give my experience this past week with a HTPC rebuild for the Digital-Only environment I'm in now.
I was able to get my antenna listings by after doing the ATSC hack, and saying I have two digital tuners, then saying I have one tuner attached to analogue cable. Then I copied all the corresponding channels and disabled all the cable channels. Bit of a chore, but it works like a charm. Now I just have to work on getting more channels from that antenna in my attic! As for my hardware, I have a 60GB SSD as the OS drive, a 2TB drive for recordings, and a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250 for over-the-air broadcasts. Wish that we could talk to someone at Microsoft that is actually responsible for programming the regional aspects of Windows Media Center so we could find out if this issue is even on their radar at this point. |

There has been posts in the MS support news groups and I think Pete knows some of them as well. MS always point folks to Pete's hack as the solution. Sadly us Canadians are going to have to wait for the version in Windows 8.

Has MS said that they will fix this in Win 8 MC? They have had several opportunities to do spin the past and not done so - Vista, Win 7 plus various smaller upgrades. And MS seems to be de-emphasizing MC.

Chiefbroom, may i suggest you try a USA setup with zipcode 13662 Massena NY.
It has all the listings for Ottawa. This setup is way easier and works better for an OTA Only setup. |

I unfortunately have no reason to believe that Microsoft will be changing Media Center in Windows 8 to enable ATSC in Canada.

And I assume that they will also not add Canada to the countries supported for Internet TV.
Did Ballmer have a Canadian girlfriend who screwed him over when he was young? What's with the lack of love for us? |

I would assume the same, although I am not aware of any Canadian girlfriend issues. ;-)

Just another in a long line of thank you posts - got a new Dell XPS17 with the built in Tuner card, and God forbid Media Center would behave properly.
Tremendous, thanks to all for your help, the fact that this still hasn't been patched by MS is just ridiculous.

pnear,
Thanks for the great work on your ATSC hack for WMC. I switched to SageTV about a year ago because I was annoyed that Microsoft didn't have a WMC "client" for PCs (not to mention not officially supporting ATSC). Anyway, with the sale of SageTV to Google and with the positive reviews of Remote Potato and its support for the WMC guide I'm considering switching back to WMC. I haven't ever actually used WMC + ATSC without any cable channels before (which is what I would be doing this time around). Has anyone put together a set of Guide IDs for Edmonton channels? I remember setting it up in Edmonton without referencing channels from Shaw was a pain in the ass. |

I am using 28486165 in the custom add Canadian, but it is missing CTS and OMNI. If you find one that includes those two channels let me know.

j0dest3r,
Thanks for that! I tried using that code, but for some reason (when assigning guides to channels) I'm getting a list of Calgary channels (CFCN instead of CFRN, etc). Odd. BTW, how did you get that guide ID number in the first place? Is there a place where I can go find this data? Perhaps on the zap2it website? |
