Default vista media center and Rogers

Hello all,
Just finished pulling all my hair out, I purchased a pre-built media center pc with tv tuner card etc, figured it would be all plug and play. Installed relatively easily until I tried to get VMC to recoginze the remote for my rogers Scientific Atlanta 3250 box. Just would not happen, tried to teach it, tried the codes, nothing. So, as it sits, I have the video feed, but must control the channels with the rogers remote. Not sure if this is a known problem. Pc manufacturer suggested that the SA3250 was not supported by Vista, called rogers support, and hung up 5 mins after as I got tired of explaining why I had a pc hooked up to my set top box and did not want to talk to internet support. Any help would be greatly appreciated, otherwise I am going to return the unit to the big box store and build my own.

Don't you need an IR blaster in VMC to control external devices?

I have an HTPC and use the IR blaster to control my audio receiver and TV with some of the extra buttons on the remote (you can download any number of free apps to remap the buttons on your remote. I recommend LM Remote Keymap). I don't have an external cable box, just an over-the-air tuner, but I believe I have read that folks with an external satellite/cable box need the IR blaster for this to work. Anyone else able to confirm that?

yes I have the ir blaster, and have moved it all over the face of the ir input. I think the problem is before that stage, as I can not get the PC ( VMC) to learn the rogers remote codes. I think if the pc learns the codes, then the next step is positioning the ir blaster to "take over" the STB.

I have also been able to make the rogers remote learn the vista remote codes, so I know the ir is functioning. To me I think it is isolated to Vista media center not having the ability to recognize the ir codes of the SA 3250 box.

Works fine in Vista MC with my Rogers SA e940. Maybe your IR receiver is defective, does it work for operating MC with the remote?

thanks, The IR works well, I can control the box with my windows remote. It will not recognize the rogers remote. in the setup process, I can hold down the 0 button and the signal goes to the box, it just says it does not recognize that remote, The training process which follows does not execute at all.

Problem solved, I found a unused rogers remote, it trained on vista and I now have a fully function VMC pvr.
