Default Old Star Choice (DSR-401) hardware questions.

I've got a DSR-401 Navigo that's never been activated. At one time, it was capable of being used for HD, if you added the HDD-201 or HDD-200 HD decoder.

Is the 401 compatible with all Shaw standard definition programming?

Is the 401 compatible with all Shaw HD programming, when used with the HDD-201 or HDD-200 HD decoder? I know they use 8PSK now for HD, and I'm guessing the answer here is no.

Arrow Yes, for the moment.

Had they not moved HD to 8PSK, then the 401 tuner could have received it and the 200/201 could have decoded it.

Until they migrate SD to 8PSK, the 401 will continue to be a bulletproof SD receiver.

You can still use the 200/201 as an SD upconverter with your VCR or old DVD player.

OR attache it to any Motorola DCT (Cable Box) that has the mini jack or DB9 serial port and use that for cable HD.

I ran a HDD201 with a DCT2000 on Shaw HD for a while until their PVR came along.

Has Shaw said when that might happen? I would assume at some point it will.

Thanks for your help.

That will not happen for quite some time.

They won't say a date, but testing is in the very final stage. They initially said it would be ~3 weeks after the interactive weather launch.
