Default XM Canada suffers significant subscriber losses

XM Canada this week reported its third quarter financial results for the fiscal quarter ending May 31, 2009.

Quote:
The good news for XM during the quarter was revenues were up and operating losses were down, however, the bad news was the number subscribers declined significantly.

Total Subs which includes OEM (where auto makers pays for 3 or 6 months) was 497,800 down 10,900 from three months earlier.

FWIW, Sirius XM is struggling and we have no idea how Sirius Canada is doing so we don't know if XM is doing better or worse than can be expected.

Very surprising loss of subscribers. Makes be believe previous quarters may have been over stated.

I wonder how many of them went grey to get a different package (Mostly Music, BOS, etc).

I did, however, I still have one XM Canada sub.

It is a great question. I wonder just how many grey Sirius/XM subscribers there are in Canada? Any guesses?

The best package between Sirius XM, Sirius Canada and XM Canada is the XM USA with Best of Sirius. However I can't see that many subscribers going to the trouble of canceling XM Canada and resubscribing to USA version.

I feel bad for XM Canada because I know they're a good bunch, however this comes as no surprise, it's exactly what I expected to see after the SXM merger.

I would offer that this has more to do with the car manufacturers not selling as many cars and therefore, not activating as many trial subscriptions, than it does any comment on demand for the service. I really like XM, but I have to admit the signal drop-outs in the rural area where I live are pretty annoying. I had a rental car with Sirius and I was amazed by how consistent the signal was - no worries about line of sight to a satellite.
