Was there anything newsworthy in there? Not sure what the writers point was.

the wiriter also must not be very imformed on Sirius and XM since he says
"The two broadcasters offer similar types of programming, though each has exclusive elements (XM Canada has NHL hockey; Sirius offers Howard Stern), and each touts its 13 channels of CRTC-mandated Canadian content" no mention of CFL, NFL, MLB, Nascar and other special stuff each company has. The article also kinda contradicts news on Yahoo today that states that Ford is the top seller in June and has actually sold more cars in 09 then 08, (http://ca.autos.yahoo.com/s/02072009...-time.html?p=1) |

But Ford hasn't sold more cars this year in Canada than last, as the latest sales figures through DesRosiers (released yesterday) show. They sold more June 2009 than June 2008, but year to date they're down. However things are looking very good for Ford this year still with an increase in market share.

This year was 74028 cars + 64472 light trucks = 138,500 While Ford may have had better sales, the total market was down. That's a 14% drop in potential new subscribers for Sirius and XM. Another item to note is the shift away from passenger cars towards light trucks. This is a "gut feeling" call on my part, but I believe that cars are used much more often for long-distance driving than light trucks. Long-distance drivers are much more likely to appreciate satellite radio than guys driving light trucks to local construction sites. The 22.9% drop in passenger car sales might be more indicative of the reduction in potential new customers.

Walter, the whole idea of a car driving more long trips then a truck is kinda not really true, ever been to an oil rig site where most of the people working there drive from all around the world to work there? 90% are trucks, simply because most cars can't make it to some of the sites, and most of the people who make the big bucks seem to own a jacked up F-150 or Ram etc. I personally drive a lot and I have an SUV for comfort and 4X4 for winter alone, and know of many other heavy drivers that bought SUV's simply for the comfort and ability to hall more then 2 people and bags on a long trip. Plus keep in the mind most of North Amercia is switching to small SUV's. And Ford does have the best selling small SUV, the Ford Escape. So I am betting the Escape is behind most of those sales figures.
