On cable I think during the time they show the local forecast they insert it from the the nearest National Weather Service Office. On Satellite, when they go to the local weather forecast, it's just a Blank color screen, with the same background music.

Suspect they do somethin similar on your canadian Weather Network on it's Satellite feed available on Anik F1. As I think I have seen breaks with nothing really there for a few minutes..
But of course I have never seen what it looks like on canadian cable to see what's supposed to be there.

@lbolen I don't think that they have any other option than to show "every little town" as you call it. The two towns you've named are only about 1250 km apart and have very little in common, weather wise.

The tornado will be over before the weather network even starts sending an alert.Currently in smaller Ontario cities the weather info. can be 3 hours old.

There is currently a tornado watch broadcasted by the Weather Network where I live. No tornado yet. So what does that say about your statement?

A watch is just that.If there was an actual tornado, the weather network would report it too late.In the US system they have live exact location reporting and where its going on all broadcast. The weather network gets its warning from enviroment Canada. Why have a middleman in a warning system.more delays. The weather network is mostly reporting of past conditions.

I've been in Alabama many times when an alert was issued well after a tornado touched down.

It's entirely possible that warnings might be injected immediately over regular programming. I've seen that a few times on regular TV stations.
