Yes, it is CHWI channel 60 changing to channel 26 on Jan.08 according to a full page add in the Windsor Star.

The problem with 29 is that CIII is transmitting from Sarnia/Oil Springs on that frequency. The PT allocation power is 450,000 watts. I was hoping that CIII would be receivable on 29, despite it's two edge status here (it's weak on analog now but better than 6 from Paris.) Now IC puts CBC on the same frequency in KW at 110,000 watts. What a stupid decision for the London area.

I heard that a Detroit area cell phone carrier wanted the CHWI frequency cleared. It's amazing what a little financial incentive will do.

Global only requested 100 KW on top of the CN Tower to reach Barrie. I doubt that Global will go with 450 KW - it would be the most powerful DT station in Canada so far. To get London, a lower power Sarnia/Oil Springs transmitter with a low power repeater into the London city area would seem to make more sense.

I just found Broadcasting Notice of Consultation CRTC 2010-624 and Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2010-795 which cover this change to CHWI-TV-60 .

Looking at the application to change CHWI-TV-60:
  • they plan on using the same antenna and are only replacing the NTSC transmitter (the transmitter chosen will likely be convertible to ATSC),
  • It will continue to use the same maximum ERP so the coverage are will increase.
  • This change will also require WLPC-LP, channel 26, Detroit to change channels, and
  • The estimated cost is $250,000 (I wonder if Verizon is footing the bill).

You could be right. They have not yet been approved but Shaw promised to make the conversion. That will make the situation in the London area even worse with CBC in K/W at 110Kw.

Anyone have any idea where WLPC is going to wind up?

2.34 kW on RF40 eventually. Whoever gets the new TBN digital 47 now might also get WLPC digital.

I meant WLPC-LP, channel 26. Has it relocated to another unprotected frequency or just gone dark?

oops.... yea it's totally dark now. Not sure if they would even bother with any more analog until they get 40 lit up though.

CHWI-DT ? Well this was the weekend for it to be DIGITAL on channel 26 for the Windsor area ?

Maybe I'm missing something as my Sharp says it is an ANALOG signal .Can't scan it in on the DVR or converter box .

Went to Essex area and as it was snowie ,it really confirms its not digital .

Great start for the Cdn content in this area after a 2 week advertising campaign .Dollars should have been spent testing the equipment or telling the public what the real plan was.... Since they spent the least on the hardware conversion in the area ,it shows what you get .

IIRC, the idea was switching to 26 but staying on analog until the conversion deadline.

That makes sense, sort of. Free up the frequency to make Verizon happy in the US but to heck with Canadian viewers until the deadline.
