Default Digital box for LG LCD

We are thinking of buying a new 42 inch LG LCD HDTV. We live near Buffalo NY so we can receive all of the American channels in our area. We are of the assumption that we don't need a digital converter box if we buy this TV, we will receive all the US stationds on our antenna without a box. Problem is, now I'm told I'll still need a converter box to see those channels. Is this correct? Appreciate any feedback, we are on a roof top antenna.
Thanks
Tucker

You don't mention the model number of the TV, however, what you need in the TV is an ATSC tuner, which was mandated in the US a few years back for TVs over a certain size. I suspect this TV has one, but check the specs and/or operating manual.

Then check out the OTA forum here - lots of discussion of tuners, antennas, etc.

What model LG LCD is it?

If it already has a built in ATSC Tuner, which it probably does but need to confirm with the model number, then you do not need to buy a separate digital converter box.

Default Thanks for the response to all

At the moment,I'm still using the LG plasma that is on loan to me till the new shiopment comes into my local dealer. At which time I'll get my LCD. Hope it gives me the US channels without the converter box when it arrives.

If you're buying a new model, it's pretty much a certainty that you won't need an external box.
