Am looking for a home printer..don't need an all in one which is simple to set up and is wireless. Have had some bad expieriences with regular hp.
Would like to hear from anyone who uses a wireless printer and is happy with it. |

I have the HP Photosmart D7460 and it works great. My suggestion with HP is to not install all the crap that comes on the CD. Just install the printer driver. I seem to recall having some issues setting it up wirelessly until I realized that you need to give it a static IP address on your home network that way its port won't change if you have multiple computers using your wireless (desktop pc, laptop, Wii, etc).

You can take any ol' USB printer and plug it into an Apple Airport Express (the AEx connects via WiFi to your network, so it can be plugged into any power outlet near the computer). The Airport Utility takes care of the configuration - no messing with IP addresses necessary.

I like my epson artisan 800. But I use it almost exclusively for pics. Not sure it's a great text printer and the ink tanks are a little on the small side.

I have a HP Officejet j4550 and Epson CX???? plugged into our desktop. Using a router in the network, desktop into router, the printer drivers are "installed" on our laptops and we can print to the printers without them being "wireless". Should work with any printer if you use a router.

I purchased a Brother Colour All-In-One Printer (MFC-490CW) Works great and seems to be really good on ink too. I bought aftermarket ink online so I had it on hand when I needed it but ive been using the printer for a few months now and still on the original ink. mind you I dont print TONS.
It is all in one but you dont need to use the extra features if you dont want.

I would add a second to the Brother family of printers...they are reliable, and you can get a good Multi-function for a decent price.
I think we got our laser multi-function with Fax, Scan and Copy for under $250.00 (for our home business) and it works like a charm. The cartridge lasts forever, and is still cheaper than inkjet. The newer ones are WiFi ready. |

I fourth the Brother recommendation.
Ours is rock solid and the ink is a great value for what you get (compared to like.. 20ml from other companies.. lol) We have an MFC685CW. It was well worth the cost for a home office, as it included phone, fax, and answering machine capabilities as well. We can buy the ink in a complete set for 60-70, when individually it works out to like 80, I believe. |

I'll add a plug for the Canon MF4690 that i have in my home office. One of the things I like best is the quick warm-up time. From hitting OK on the print dialog box to having the first piece of paper coming out is always under 10 seconds; compare that with the Dell 1850 we had at our office - it was at least 30-40 seconds before it "woke up"; we all hated that thing with a passion.

I have a Brother MFC-7840W (B&W Laser)
Prints extremely fast, is a great multi-function scanner/photocopier/fax. Wireless and network enabled. The Brother software/manuals are always as cryptic as hell but when you get it going it works great for any computer PC or Mac. Only issue is that it's not color but I find I hardly ever need color anyway and for that I have an old HP inkjet. Had it for about 4 months now and so far am extremely happy with the decision - great multi-purpose laser for a decent price. |

well I ended up finding a brother mfc-490cw for 89.00 @ Best buy.
Was ready to pick one up for 149.00 then they went on sale so I nabed one. So far havn't done anything with it other than connect it wired to our wireless modem/ router. The instructions are not very clear on allowing 2 laptops to print to it without cables....Will figure it out when I get some time. |

Steve,You will need to run the wireless setup on the printer itself and input your security type and password in the printer then it will be shared wirelessly then just install the printer on each laptop separatly, as long as you set up the wireless printer to be dhcp thru your router your laptops with both detect it easily.
