I can't believe this is how they plan on achieving 100% coverage they announced a year+ ago! What a load. Explornet was alway a crappy option available to Saskatchewan residents.
How about upgrading all towers for digital data first? Something without the latency would be appreciated. |

At least for the users in New Brunswick, they get a major break on prices and install costs.
http://www.highspeednb.com/ What the link shows is for a referral to Xplornet. And if certain towns can not get a private contractor to set up a wireless system on Behalf of SaskTel?, the towns people get, once again, referred to Xplornet. But the users in Saskatchewan can contact the Saskatchewan Government to ensure that SaskTel is indeed living up to the government Contract to provide 100% coverage... And unfortunately that contract might allow SaskTel to shunt off parts of the Province to third parties, to achieve 100% coverage. And if third party service is slow? Do you get to call SaskTel to complain? Or do you get to bang your head on the wall for spending hundreds of dollars on glorified dialup? And what about that Xplornet contract? http://www.xplornet.com/legal.php?id=2 And very vague Xplornet/Telesat FAP policy? http://www.xplornet.com/legal.php?id=4 I can see the northern portions of 'middle of nowhere' using satellite, but towns should not have to be subject to less than DSL or true high speed wireless. https://commerce.sasktel.com/eSales/...&SMIDENTITY=NO What are the terms of the agreement with Barrett Xplore Inc. (BXI)? SaskTel will be offering a new SaskTel Satellite High Speed Internet that will be powered by Xplornet. In order to deliver the service SaskTel has signed a seven year up to $6 million contract with Xplornet. This cost was included within the $129 million Rural Infrastructure Program. What is the reliability of SaskTel Satellite High Speed Internet powered by Xplornet? Like any satellite based technology SaskTel Satellite High Speed Internet powered by Xplornet will be subject to the limitations inherent with having to send a signal over 22,000 miles to space and back on both the forward and return trip in order to deliver your information. This typically can create a sub-second lag. For this reason SaskTel Satellite High Speed Internet powered by Xplornet may not be ideal for any internet activity requiring real time data (e.g. multi player games requiring precision and the fastest reaction times or online trading). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demand_...ultiple_Access |

Spending hundreds of dollars, my goodness what a rip off...lol.
Under $500 for technology that can send and receive a signal from a satellite 22,000 miles away, and achieve downloads of up to 5mb from ANYWHERE Sk, or stick to dialup your choice. |

Sasktel is now offering free install.
You pay $249.00 installed - no activation fee - no contract required. You get a discount off the monthly fee if you sign a contract. 1mb service = $56.95 per month (3yr term) 1.5mb service = $74.95 per month. Been installing daily with positive feedback on the Hughes Ka system, we run a speed test after install and always get a few kbps more than 1mb or 1.5mb. Install a bandwidth monitor to avoid FAP, 1mb = 200mb download daily, 1.5 = 425 mb download daily. This offer good for Sk residents |
