so, if and when Look goes belly-up, what will happen to their customers? will they suddenly be without TV and internet service, or will they be teleported to Bell or Rogers?

Looks customers will be out of service, and will need to find another provider for their TV and internet.
The spectrum controlled by Look has been sold. |

I am speculating but... Look's current spectrum will likely be used by Bell and Rogers to expand their joint cellular internet offering. The only thing that Look owned that was of value was the spectrum they used for TV. That can be put to better use for wireless internet in rural areas.

I'd like to see Bell take it over personally and provide an real alternative to TV for those who aren't in the line of sight of any satellites.

You still need line of sight to the Look tower. That's even more difficult since it is very low on the horizon and is often blocked by trees and buildings. Look's spectrum is not wide enough to handle HD or much more than about 50 SD stations. That's pretty much a dead end in today's BDU market.

Does anyone here have Look or did you ever have Look? I remember seeing a demo in a store about 10 years ago but that's it. I know it's SD but what was/is it like?

I had it in London. Picture quality was terrible. People in the GTA were happier with the quality. It was a good deal though. It worked out to be a bit cheaper than analog cable but with better programming options.

Yeah, It's too bad in a way. It would have been a healthy alternative had they conformed to changes and done a better job at marketing. Someone should do some screen grabs of the menu and guide for historical fun.
I wonder if Look will come out and collect the equipment and antennas from the customers or if it will be abandoned? Does it have any other uses? Wasn't some of the direct stuff and look inter-changeable? |

Any updates? I am another happy subscriber (Orangeville tower) and have 3 set-top boxes (RCA) that I own. Will these be OK to use with another provider or will they be junk if Look closes down?

It depends exactly what technlogy they use, but my guess is they are useless.

Those dishes might be close enough in range for a super wifi antenna.. Got a big back yard? :P

I have a 9 acre backyard! I think I have a directional yagi, not a dish. It is mounted up on the top of a TV tower. My internet is provided by a local WISP that uses the 900MHz Vecima (Waverider) gear so I don't think the Look antenna will be any good for that. What frequency is Look using for digital TV service delvery? Isn't it near the AWS band (1900 MHz)?? I just bought a couple of 802.11g antennas to do a wireless link to my shop that is about 700' away. They are TrendNet 14dbi flat panels at 2.4GHz.

Look is 2.5-2.6MHz, just above the public use range often used for cordless phones and WiFi. (2.4-2.5GHz)
So, in theory, you might be able to use the highest wifi channel with a Look antenna. No idea how it would work in real-life, though |
