Does anybody know why Shaw Direct is only allowed (or only does) show the WHL hockey games Manitoba-west? I assume it is part of the contract Shaw has with the WHL, but does anybody know why that would be in the contract?

The WHL exists only in Western Canada as well as in Washington state and Oregon, so my guess is that the junior hockey leagues in the east don't want them horning in on their areas.

That and the CHL's national broadcast rights are owned by Sportsnet. For Shaw to show WHL out of region would probably breach the terms of the contract between Sportsnet and the CHL.

Those both make sense, and were the only two reasons I could think of. It just annoys me that Sportsnet only airs 8-10 games per season.
