It helps ch.7 thur 13. and yet leaves ch.14 thur 51 about the same.

Default X-716 "Two Naked Dragons" High Gain HDTV Antenna

Out of curiocity I stacked two X-707 "Naked Dragon" together. The result is very interesting, resulting in antenna being 3 meters long and having pretty flat gain from 12 dBi to 15.5 dBi without any reflectors. Obviously, there is something about this layout which works in multiple bays.
Reflectors would add another 3 dBi or so. Cheers and Happy Thanksgiving!

Default X-716 "Two Naked Dragons" with chicken mesh reflector

Here is X-716 "Two Naked Dragons" with a mesh reflector made of a small galvanized chicken fence. It is big, it has good gain numbers, but the most interesting that with gain varying from 15 dbi to 18+ dbi this antenna has 60 degree horizontal sweep arc (+/- 3 dbi)!

Perhaps someone could use this as the starting point and really improve it. In this case this is going to be one biiiiiiig antenna.

Hey Bokabob - you are on a roll!. I know you are looking at an antenna that has a wide azimuth gain lobe but how about ganging two single dragons side by side with a mesh reflector- similar to the CS2 vs CS4. There are some folks here that are looking for a 20dbi plus antenna at a single band (or relatively narrow band) where they could steer the beam past nearby towers - so a side by side may provide just that

Autox, problem with rods is right now I'm using it as an omni antenna. I'm watching for something that would have enough gain to use a combiner for 2-3 antennas. The dragon's in bi-directonal look interesting, but at 3m, a metal support mast running the height of it would be needed and I'm guessing that would impact the gain on the side of the mast. Also, at 3m I would be back to a single antenna array that then goes through splitters to several locations increasing the need for gain even more.

The way I have it now, is that shorted loop goes to the room with vdr computer through a 2 way splitter. One out goes to a converter box and the other goes to a dual tuner which would have an internal splitter of its own.

Vorg; I'm also using a SBL, and it works for me about 99% of the time. About once in every two months I will get drop outs on Ch. 14. So I've been looking for a small antenna with 5dBi Net gain across Ch. 14 thur 45. If the SBL is made into an ellipse and adding one 13" rod 12" off center it may give me what I need in a 14.5"X16" size, or I'll make a hentenna for Ch 14 with an A B switch.

Hi Xauto, Thanks for that small antenna in 702. I just realized that I have not comment on it. I will probably also be a candidate for the same construction method that Bokabob used where everything is soldered together.

RamKat: If you go off to make X702. You need not put the step in the outer whiskers, that was done to stop the warnings from the modeling.

I like this antenna's fat beam width!

I modified your 2 Bay BiQuad "SPIDER" model X-723 and and improved the gain some what. Changed the reflector to 28" wide x 36" high (4"x2" grid) 3.5" behind the active elements.

Default Thank you much but the honor is to the people who showed me how...

I always ask if someone could improve any kind of antenna I could think of. It happened that you increased the gain by 1 dB across the spectrum -- nice!

I am toying with a wire layout exactly the size of GH antenna (60cm x 80cm) and giving about twice sensitivity at the fringes, low channels to be correct. Maybe someone with more knowledge could improve that too.

I continued to play around with the 2 Bay BiQuad from X-724 (original model X-723) and managed to gain another ~1.5 db at the top end (at the expense of a small drop off at the very low end).

I noticed that the internal horiz elements were out of phase, so I eliminated them (lines 2,4, 7 & 8 below) and added new external horiz elements at the top & bottom (lines 16-18 below).
