Maybe someone here with knowledge on how Canadian Television work can explain this.
Usually Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson is on Mon-Fri at 12h35 AM on CBS. As you know, because E! also shows that show, the CBS signal is taken-over by E! so that canadian commercials can be show on both channels. I don't know if E! (CHCH from Hamilton) dropped Ferguson, but someone should have told the technician not to block CBS. What can I do now? I live in Canada so I can't watch the show on the internet because it's blocked (yeah don't ask me why) Comments? Ideas? |

I'm guessing that Ferguson was delayed last night due to the NCAA basketball finals on CBS earlier last night. So I don't think it was E! that was the problem, but that the basketball game ran late.

The basketball game was scheduled to be on until Midnight ET, local news from 12-12:35, Letterman 12:35-1:35 and Ferguson 1:35-2:35. So it wasn't E!'s fault.
As for what you can do, the answer is nothing really. You can try YouTube, but you probably won't have much luck. In the future, check CBS' schedule to see if it is scheduled it its regular time. I expect it may have been a repeat last night anyway. |

So you think the basketball games delayed programming?
I've seen that happen before, in those cases, Canadians stations don't let their signal go over the US station. Why am I paying to get CBS if I can't get to watch it? I still think CHCH screwed up. |

Actually now that I take a look Letterman was just pre-empted last night. What was on E! when you checked?

Your service provider screwed up. Because normally they put E overtop of CBS at 12:35 every weeknight, they did so again last night, as everything is automated.
There was only one game last night, and tip off was at 9:21 pm EDT. I'm not sure when it ended exactly, but it was around midnight, so yes, it delayed everything. You should have seen CBS cleanly if they weren't showing CF at 12:35. Who is your cable / satellite provider? You should complain to them directly, or complain via the CRTC for a faulty simsub. |

I just checked and CBS just pre-empted Letterman last night, and aired Ferguson at its regular time. However the basketball game probably ran past midnight, delaying everything on CBS. I think the only problem was that you didn't wait long enough for it to come on. Sure E! was simsubbed over CBS, but the broadcast hadn't started on either channel because of the basketball game. E! had to wait for CBS because they get the feed live directly from them.
I don't think it was anybody's fault really. If anyone blame the cable company for not monitoring the simsubs, but all you likely missed was US news. |

But even then, QuatuorMortis and everyone else should be able to see the local newscast on CBS.
What if there was an important story about a family member or friend on there that one wanted to see, and the cable company screwed up things with improper simsubs, then it would be a really big deal. |

You're right it's actually not a big deal, but still frustrating. |

If you read my last post you'd see that Letterman was just pre-empted, so it should have been local programming (usually news).
I believe you that you were seeing E!, I'm just trying to see what happened. It is unlikely that the basketball game did run that late. |

Well, basketball started at 9:21 pm EDT, and finished around midnight. After local news was probably shown, and then at 12:35, maybe an episode of Letterman wasn't shown (by pre-empt do you mean just delayed or not shown at all), and Craig Feguson should have been shown at 12:35. At 1:00 am then CF should have been on, and not some celebrity program from E.
You can complain directly to the CRTC if you feel E cut out regularly scheduled progamming on CBS: http://www.crtc.gc.ca/RapidsCCM/Register.asp?lang=E They will ask for where the service is delivered to and to whom, and then will ask for a followup response from the guilty party. |

Classof83 what you are saying is likely correct and the same thing I was thinking. And yes Letterman wasn't aired at all. It's not a huge deal because I think it was a repeat, but the CRTC should still be notified.

It would make sense if Letterman was in repeats all this week (and not shown at all on Monday)... as the basketball would have delayed it on Monday, and the Masters highlights show also delays things tonight and tomorrow night. I know Leno is also on repeats this week.
But QuatuorMortis, do complain... every complaint counts and the more they keep hearing about improper simsubs, the more they realize just how much viewers do miss out on things. |
