Default IL-2 1946 Windows Vista 64-bit

Has anyone played IL-2 1946 on a Windows Vista 64-bit system? I contacted Ubisoft and they said if the platform is not shown in "Requirements" then there is no guarantee it will play on Vista 64-bit.
IL-2 the original is the best flight sim I've played for realism, flight wise. Flight dynamics after getting bullet damage etc. is very realistic.
This is the only game I enjoy. Speed and shooting at objects not people.
Any feedback would be appreciated, I don't really want to spend $70 and find out it's not compatible with my system.
Thanks

Agreed, it is the best combat flight sim ever made!

I've run it on 64-bit Linux using Wine and it installs/works perfectly. No idea if it will suit your OS. I haven't flown it in quite awhile but now you've got me thinking about it again.

You could enquire at this site but it seems to be out of date (Oleg used to lurk there for questions and comments):

Sorry I'm not able to provide help at this time as I don't have Vista 64bit.
I'm very active in the IL2 community, and will see what I can find out for you and post back.

Thank you stampeder/BPwingN
I checked out the 2 links provided and bookmarked Pacific Fighters. Olegs' ready room kept throwing errors, so no link to.
I played the original IL-2 until my P3 1ghz, 512ram comp. started to bog down and that was about 5 years ago.
I now have a system that will/should/hope run the newer version, 1946. I'm going to try tonight to load the original game.
Trying to sell my wife on a $70 game is going to be harder than the upgraded computer after 10 years. Time to bring my 30 year old vacuum cleaner salesman suit out I guess . Easters' coming... step one!

Holy flat spin BPWingN.
i7-920, 2 x 4850 Crossfire, 6gbRAM, 300gbVelociraptor & Vista 64 bit.
Make sure I can get the US version, follow the steps to install...which for a tech left-hander do able with courage plus sell this to my wife. Whiskey it must be.
Well living up here in Northern BC my sources for games is small/really small and to order it online? and specify US non Securom version....
It's been brought up before, people that legitimately pay for a game/dvd and end up with major playability issues or other..... and Ubisoft seems to be ball dropping on this issue.
I'm somewhat choked at Ubisoft and Securom, they are both getting an email.
I'd like to thank both stampeder and BPWingN for your assistance with this.
I am going to bookmark the links supplied for help in the future. One day.....they'll be a Yak appear and
