Default Can "My Favorites" be the default?

Frequently when accessing channels via the "Favourites" button I end up back in the regular channel mode and that kind of defeats the purpose of a favourites mode.
Can I make Favourites more permanent?

That would be a great addition to the next firmware update now, wouldn't it? I don't expect Shaw would willingly do this as it would prevent everyone from possibly seeing the long list of channels they 'could' have but don't really want in the first place. It would be good if Shaw remembered one of the fundamentals of business; give the customer what they want.

I have tried to make this happen but it just doesn't seem to be an option. As soon as you leave the guide, it reverts to the 'all channels' list.

Leave the "heart" hilighted, then press "Settings" followed by "Select". Easy. Just two key presses. As I recall, it works for "Guide", too.

Jetranger,

My instructions were done from memory. I should have put the TV on to check. First you must save some favorites. I figure you have already done that.

When you press "Settings' on the remote, do you see a row of icons across the bottom of the screen with a heart icon toward the middle? (The button on my remote is labelled "Settings", but also says "Menu" by it. This is the button directly above the circle of buttons around the "Select/OK" button.)

If you highlight the heart, it will stay highlighted (selected) if you don't change it. While it is highlighted, press OK/Select on the remote TWICE and you should get a guide you can scroll through which just shows your favorite channels.

You didn't have to press OK/Select twice in the past, but I forgot that one of the updates gave us the opportunity to have more than one favorites list. If you have more than one (say for different household members), you can select which favorites list you want to have come up in the Guide. I'm pretty sure the last favorites list chosen will stay selected for the next time, so you can do two quick presses.

So, I guess you have to make 3 key presses in total, but after awhile it becomes pretty automatic and you do get only the channels you want in your personalized Guide.

I hope my instructions are better this time and that you'll be able to make it work.

Ah,

I can follow you now but the answer to punman's original question is still 'no'. I can't speak for him but I was thinking he meant; can't the 'Favourites' list be set to the default when pressing the 'guide' button. That is what I would want it to do if I could change it.

Thanks for your suggestion though as it is likely the 'best option' in liew of a real function.

Hi Jetranger,

I agree that this is only a "workaround", although it does have an advantage, in that you can have more than one Favorites list to scroll the Guide. If there is more than one person using the box, they can each have their own list of favorites. Or, as I have done, you can create several favorites lists, for example "News", "Movies", "Networks", "Documentary channels", etc. (Sometimes I'm in the mood for news, or other times for a documentary type show.)

The one drawback to that, though, is when you have the box reset, you have to create it all over again :-(
