Default (Small) Local Stations?

Is it possible to receive small market local CTV stations such as CJBN Kenora and CHFD Thunder Bay if you live anywhere in Canada on satellite (if you get a hardware upgrade), or are stations like these restricted to their local broadcast areas only?

it depends if their signals are available on satellite, and if you have "Time shifting" or "distant networks/stations" in your satellite bill. if i recall, i did get CJBN-TV in the basic package when my dad ordered StarChoice....it's a nice little station...

I get CJBN Kenora, CHFD Thunder Bay and CITL Lloydminster on Star Choice as part of the essentials. I'm in New Brunswick.

Okay, Thanks for the replies. I'm in PEI and have Bell TV and I can't get these channels with my regular locals.

You can't get them on Bell. They only show the channels locally to the local markets. The only small channels that I get is CKWS (233), CBC Dawson Creek (260). The rest are all on local viewing only. We used to get the Thunder Bay channels as well, but they have changed how those are shown. Also got CHAT Medicine Hat for a few weeks last year, but they quickly changed that as well.

Default Kenora, Thunder Bay etc. Star Choice Offers Them!

Why does StarChoice offer all those small market channels, but Bell doesn't, would it not make sense that if they are already broadcasting them, then it would not cost anything more to give those channels to everyone! In my situation and I know I'm not alone, I'm as close to Kenora Ontario as Winnipeg Manitoba, but I don't get the Kenora feed. On a pure economics basis, why would Bell not give that channel to all, which would reduce the cost per viewer, and increase the number channels it offers...unless they just plan on dropping all small markets because it costs too much per viewer to make room for more HD! I guess If Bell gave those small market channels to all and it made ONE BELL veiwer happy, that would go against all they have been working towards for years!
