The quality of the transfer will be the defining factor for these.
Given how well the transfer can be done - see Blade Runner - I hope they demonstrate the respect these classics deserve |

I'm sure they will.....
Seriously, if I had to pick one movie that really knocks my socks off as an HD presentation, I'd go with Warner's "The Searchers" from 1956..... I wouldn't worry about Warner, no doubt fans will be amazed when they finally get a load of these two films in glorious Technicolor HD. |

We saw Wizard Of Oz earlier this year, in what was billed as the first hidef broadcast of this movie. Not sure if that was first ever, or first in Canada.....
I would have to say they have a fair bit of cleanup to do, to make it look any good in Blu-Ray. |

From the article -
"the film has been entirely remastered, with each of the original Technicolor camera negatives scanned using 8K resolution. From this scan, a final "capture" master was created in 4K, yielding twice the resolution seen in the master utilized for the film's previous DVD release." This is similiar to the process used to transfer "Baraka" to BD. Different camera doing the shooting of course! Either way, it's an excellent start!! If it's anything close to "Baraka", we're in for a serious treat!! |

Yeah, I'm nowhere near tech-savvy enuff to understand all that stuff...just hoping it's a mint release! Great flick, good memories. The whole "flying monkeys" thing still scares the heck out of me!!
I still find it crazy to read "70th Anniversary"...70 years??!!!! That is one old movie man! |

Nowhere in the article does it state whether GWTW will be presented in the original aspect ratio (1.37:1) or in the 50's WS (2.20:1) 70 mm format. Here's hoping they stick with the original ratio. If they want me to buy it they'd better.

Anyone have any luck finding Oz in the 1 or 2 disc version? I tried FS and Walmarts in the Waterloo region (during my daily work travels...
