This thread is for the 9242. Perhaps the 9241 requires a different hard drive.

Oh yes it probably is...although I was aware that the OP had a 9242 I thought the discussion was still relevant and is why I posted here.
However, as was pointed out in a US forum...the 9241 is NOT a Dish 722 but rather a Dish 612...which more then likely has a different firmware allowed set of drives. I am still hunting for the list of hard drives for the 612. Let's add this up: $200 - For 9241 (aka Dish 612) which had no hard drive $100 - For a compatible hard drive for the Dish 722 (that is so hard to find I ordered it from California and paid ups overnight shipping) Total- $300 Currently Bell is offering 200 bucks off on 9241 bringing total down to $299. So now I am going to spend even more to get this beast running!!! haha Will this be the last time I waste money on electronics...haha...probably not. Anyone happen to know the hard drives for a 612? hahaha Oh also, anyone looking for a 500GB hard drive compatible with their 9242 let me know haha On the plus side, the box still gets the full Bell package...I guess it is still attached to the guy's account who screwed me...gonna order a crap load of porn to make up what I lost hahahaha Thanks guys.

This has been asked and answered many times, including in the first few posts in this thread. There is a very short list of compatible internal drives and they are difficult to find. Larger drives are not supported so increasing recording capacity is not a reason to switch internal drives. I highly recommend leaving the current internal drive as is. There are threads about what external drives work best. I suggest you read those. A 1TB external drive will store about 120hr of HD or 1000hr of SD.

I'm a long time reader but only now registered. I have been getting an error 24 for quite a while. I have been looking and trying all the suggestions in this forum but nothing seems to work. I don't want to replace the internal hardrive so I was wondering if I could use an external HD instead and if so, what would the forum recommend?
Thanks in advance for any help you may provide. |

Did you try reformatting the hard disk as per the instructions in the sticky thread? You can't use the EHD in place of the internal disk. The 9242 won't record directly to the EHD anyway.

Its a 500 GB drive. Do I presume from everything above that even tho the 9242 ships with a 320GB drive, this 500 GB drive will function fine in place of a dead 320 GB drive? (I realize I'll only get 320 GB capacity once formatted in the 9242) |

I have 2 9242's but I have not had any issues and have not had to replace the Hard Drive. I did read somewhere that it gives you more recording capacity, as the larger drives are written into the software for Dishet's equivalent receivers. If I can find it I'll PM you.

It will use the entire 500gb and increase the recording capacity. My google search for the ST3500830SCE turns up all "Out Of Date Item". Where did you find them?

Maybe this won't be as easy as I thought (should have guessed!).
Here's where I found a listing of retailers claiming to have the ST3500830SCE. http://www.google.com/products/catal...d=0CDAQ8wIwAg# Of these, NextDayPC lists it as backordered. I placed an order with FuturePowerPC, but 10 mins later they sent an email saying they were out of stock and the item was discontinued. Currently, I have an order in with UpgradeBay. We'll see what comes of this. They are also listed at Amazon, although ~ $280 for a new one. |

I have been given a 9242 to scavenge the Hitachi CinemaStar 320gb harddrive.
The drive does not even spin-up when plugged to a pc, I remember it was working in the DVR. (4 months ago) ![]() It is possible that this drive is firmware protected ? Thank-You |
