I have been thinking of getting an SVS PB10-NSD, read lots of good comments about it. Now I have an opportunity to get a Paradigm DSP 3400 for the same price. The Paradigm is a much bigger sub (14" driver) and the specs seem pretty good, but I haven't found much feedback from owners of this sub. Ideally I would like to audition them both but that is impossible. Anyone familiar with either or both of these subs?
edit: I should add, my room size is 17'x13'x7' . I currently have a older Paradigm PDR-8. Last edited by NewfZX7; 2009-02-17 at 09:43 PM. |

I have the DSP-3100 and it is a great sub.
When I was choosing it was between the 3100 and the PB10 and I could get the 3100 about $125 cheaper. I can only imagine what the 3400 would be like |

Before moving up to a PB12-NSD, I had a PB10-NSD. It was an excellent subwoofer. (See my thoughts on it here.)
That being said, if you can get the larger and more powerful DSP-3400 for the same money, go for it, especially if you enjoy effortless LFE. Either way, you'll never look at your PDR-8 the same way again (so to speak).

Well I missed the opportunity to get the 3400, it was gone when I went to go get it today. Wacky Wheatleys are closing up here in NL and they had one 3400 for $620. I was going to try and get it for even lower.. oh well I'll have to save up for a PB12-NSD or maybe an 20-39PCi Cylinder.

It's not more powerful....the SVS is. The 900 watt rating of the DSP is misleading at best since that's a dynamic figure....a useless spec. It's rated for 300 watts rms.....25 less than the SVS. But it's a moot point....he got the better sub anyway..

With its 14" driver, however, I suspect the DSP is capable of more slam than the PB10.

Sorry....for some reason I thought he bought the 12"
The DSP could potentially have more output, however I wouldn't assume that just because it has a 14" sub. I've heard more than my fair share of subs and speakers with smaller drivers absolutely embarrass those with larger drivers.

I got the PB12-NSD a couple of months ago and the skidoosh scene is very impressive. There's nothing like that moment when your sub makes your buttocks quiver to make you appreciate yuour purchase.

just chiming in on the "skidoosh" scene....it's great to see I'm not the only one out there who knows the scene somewhat vividly....and i don't even have kids...yet.
