Default Free upgrade from 6000 to 6131

If I missed it, I appologize, but I couldn't find a thread about this.

I just received a letter from BellTV. They've offered to give me two 6131 HD receivers in exchange for my two old 6000 receivers. I called them up today, and they are on their way. I should get them in 7 to 10 days.

Anyone else get this offer?

This exchange is apparently only for the 6000 model.

Works for me.

I guess the swap out of 6000's has begun then. I read somewhere else that Bell was going to begin changing over to 8PSK beginning April 1st. Just a rumor at this point though.

Yeah got the letter today and promptly called them up to set up exchange. Good timing as I had just talked to retentions the week before and had agreed to a 70$ buy back for the 6000. Much happier getting a new receiver I can use or sell for what I assume would be more than 70$.

The funny thing for me was that I was just about to go to Bell World and buy a 6131 (or 6141 if still available), went to get the mail, and there was the letter.

Great for me as one of my 6000, although still registered as active, no longer works. And the other I've been finding very slow.

Also, I called BellTV a few days ago and asked if they would take the two 6000 and an old 4500 as trade in and they said no.

Oh well.

Quote from another site (note this was directed to a commercial customer, not a residential customer)

Quote:
Bell TV has indicated for some time, that HD transponders will be migrated to 8PSK. Please be advised that as of April 1st, 2009, Bell TV will begin executing its plan to roll-out 8PSK. The modulation to be used on the affected transponders, as was communicated earlier, will be Broadcom's 8PSK which is not compatible with DVB-S2 8PSK. Bell TV will provide the standard two week notification before a transponder is switched to 8PSK. No changes to the modulation will begin prior to April 1st. Please be sure to have all of the neccessary equipment in place by this date, to ensure a smooth transition to 8PSK once the two week notice is given. If you anticipate any problems with equipment availability, please notify us ASAP.

Default Are they asking for the 6000's back

OK, so it looks like a 6000 may be of no use in future - at least for HD channels

For those who got letter, are they asking for 6000 to be returned??

or are they just deactivating the 6000, and activating the 6131 (and you get to keep a piece of satellite history)

Thanks
Jeff

Unhappy Is the exchange fair

They want the 6000 returned and there is a second offer on the table a 9241 for 375 installed, but there is a catch.
You pay 499 and get a program credit of 125 however the end price differs because you pay GST and PST on the 499 as opposed to to 375. A diferrence of about $18.00.

I complained and they will roll the additional tax back by increasing the program credit which is good.

I am a little unclear why the 6000 is being replaced is the 8spk as previously mentioned? The CSR at bell tell you it will not work with the new sattellite. Unfortunately they do not know all the technical aspects of the switch. What sattellite that is I do not know,
nimiq 3 or the old Direct TV which they now have.

However I am seriously thinking of jumping to Rogers because I can buy two pvrs for 298 each plus tax and 6 months of free programming
After 9 years of being a loyal customer I was extremely disatisfied with their service when it took them 30 hours and 6 phone calls to re establish my prgramming after two months of vacation.

I am wondering if there will be a switch on the 9200 down the road as it is only an mpeg 2 receiver??? There are many of them in service.

I do not beleive there are many relics like us left with the 6000 receiver which I bought years ago

Yes, the model 6000 receivers must be returned within 30 days of your order, or, I was told, $250 will be charged to your account. I have 2 receivers, so I'm not sure whether it's for one or both receivers.

But since one of my 6000s doesn't work anymore and I find the other too slow, I have no use for them. I also don't believe in piracy so I refuse to just sell them to someone else.

And yes, as jft436 mentioned, there is a second deal on the table. I found the price a bit high for the HD-PVR, especially since you can get one for $399 or less right now, that I'd just prefer the free 6131s.

And I do hope for a similar deal for my 9200 in the next year or two as they activate Mpeg4 for HD.

But I'm quite happy with the deal as offered as I'll be able to make both of these receivers into PVR's.

Thanks for the heads up, Norm. I purchased my 6131 I guess two weeks early as I was upgrading from a failed 6000 receiver. Appreciate the PM and will contact them to see what I can do.

The 6000 is the only Bell HD receiver that is not compatible with 8PSK modulation, which it appears they are finally switching to (8PSK increases the amount of bandwidth available to programming). So it's necessary to swap them out. It's good they're doing it free of charge, Starchoice charged their customers when they did it!

Get a free exchange on your 6000 and either have a second receiver or sell that receiver. Would be easier than trying to negotiate with BTV.

Default Is the letter needed, is this a closed offer?

I too have a 6000, can I call without having been sent a letter?

This is for the 6000 only. The 6100 is quite capable of decoding 8PSK.
