The Technician has NO idea how many receivers are already on your account, he is NEVER given that information at all.
Don't worry, they are not the Bell Police. |

Sorry, but I talked to a Bell installer today, and he says different....maybe some just don't read it, or care, but they DO have the info available according to him. He personally said it wasn't worth the risk to save a few dollars if it was that important to us, so we're not taking the risk this time round....too many years invested here getting it right.

If you were talking to an installer from Bell that could be true. But in Grimsby you would have a Tech from ASRJ, they are sub-contractors and have no idea of your account details.

Well in that case it really stands to reason that a Tech will not go to an address that is not the Service address.....lol

I recently upgraded from strictly SD setup to a 9242 HD receiver and had a bit of a surprise when the installer came by (on time I might add) to install the runs from the 82 lnb.
The dish currently installed has the required dual LNB required for HD. He took one look at the current set up and pronounced that I needed a new dish installed on the north side of the roof near the edge (gutter) because the current dish that was up there was not in an approved location (it is approximately 2 feet from the peak of the roof on the south side of the house.) To make a long story short, for him it boiled down to the fact that the current dish that is up there is actually on the roof and he refused to get off his ladder stating that it is neither his policy or bell expressvu's policy to go onto the roof. My issue is that I would rather avoid having a new dish place on the roof. But the claim that they are not allowed to go onto the roof just does not make sense to me. Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated. Canadiansonyguy 47" samsung HDTV, 2 5900 PVR's and 1 5800 PVR |

so much for installers not caring or getting involved with previous installs...makes me think we made the right decision to keep them out of our business
as for your problem, whatever happened to the customer's always right??? When cable comes to setup, the wires go where YOU TELL them to go! I would think one call to Bell complaining about the installer should get you some results. What if you had no choice because of trees or buildings in the way....sometimes the dish has to go WHERE it has to go, aside from any installers "fears" . Good luck!! |

Sometimes the installer knows best when it comes to installing satellite dishes/wiring...
Of course the homeowner thinks the roof install is safe, he isn't the one up on the roof... The customer is always right moto, is wrong... Try explaining modulating the 2nd tuner to a cable channel from 73 to 115 and watch their head spin! The problem with working on previously installed dishes, is when the roof leaks, they will most likely chase the last guy who was there, and ask him for $X to repair his roof... Many of the installers are clueless (I have had one at my place) but some know what they are doing ( I had him here too!) I'm guessing whoever installed the dish on the peak in the first place had no idea what he was doing, or he wouldn't have mounted it at the peak Unless you have a REALLY steep pitch on your roof, you shouldn't have to mount it at the peak to clear the roof |

Bell's official policy is that the Roof is a very last resort and even then it must only go on an overhanging section, over the eaves, not on the main body of the Roof.
Having said that, I was out in the Lindsay area last Summer and was amazed at how many Dish's, from new Installations were locted in the centre of roofs. I called at a local Installation Companies Office and asked why. The answer was that it was easy and quick. They had the feeling that as long as the Customer signed a waiver, which each installer carried, any future Roof leaks and building damage would not be their problem. I just shook my head. Many installations could and should have used a wall, that would have been just as easy in my opinion but the installers think that by using the waiver and 4 big wood screws they were going to make more money. |

Update:
The installers came out on Sunday and the complete install took about 2 hours. I had 3 lines run into the house. I expect to be billed by BTV for 2 of the runs. I hope the bill is only going to be around $100. I'll see when the bill comes.

Hi,
I'm getting Bell TV installed on the weekend. I purchased 2 HD receivers and a dual PVR HD receiver from the local satellite store. Their installer will arrive on Saturday and I'm looking for any tips or advice to get additional programming (free or for a trial period, of course) or make things go smoothly for the install (done quickly. no nickel and dime surprises) I've looked through the programming and plan to choose Digital Essentials + HD 4 Theme packs. It appears the cost will be $59+10+3=$72/month. The installer will be doing the activation with Bell, I'm told. Other than the install charge, is there anything else I'll pay? Any suggestions or advice? Thanks! |

Personally, I pre-run my own RG6 and have everything ready to go for the 1 time that an installer had to show up (rental unit). Basically, the easier it is for them, the faster it will go and the less likely it will be for additional charges.
The cost will be whatever you worked out with the installer/company. Since you didn't say who it is we can't guess on what they will charge you for. You likely should read this thread on professional installs from Bell: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=100985 This one on general HD installs: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=26721 and this one http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=79111 (or all sticky threads in this forum) |

Mike from Welland (ASRJ) is a good guy, things could improve as QX is taking over all installers coast to caost as of April 30th, so they will be calling all the shots.
