Or they may ask you to sign a waiver that existing cable was used.

In my case, the installer (9200 rental so had to have him show up) didn't look at any of my infrastructure. He just plugged in to the 2 feeds I had sitting there ready for him, dropped off all the spare parts that he could have used (but didn't need), had a coffee that I offered him and went merrily on his way. Easiest install of the day I imagine.

indeed it was easy for him but if Bell decided to audit that installation, or the one we started talking about in this thread where the cables are already in situ, then the Installer would get a black mark against him, for NOT running all new.

It is the typical catch 22, the customer wants the installer to use the existing lines, so does the Technician, if they are suitable but Bell will fail his installation if they check it out. I can tell you that Bell have lost Customers because of this insane ruling.

I just want them to set up the 9242 for now with a new dish, they said the install was free, on a renewal program. I can do the rest of the work with my old receivers and with my old dish and other sat stuff I have. I'm sure it is an 18" dish with "Y" adaptor for 82/91. I've been with Bell since they started.

I called them yesterday and said I wanted the 9242, they said they didn't have any and I would have to pick one up from a store, After I picked it up and called them back they wanted to charge me $99 for install! I complained and asked for a supervisor.....they came back and waived the install fee.

Only problem is they can't install until after Superbowl!

Why not try to get a Dish, SW44 and second LNBF from the location you got the 9242.?

Again, there is no such animal as an official 18" Bell Dish with a "Y" yolk. If you have an 18" Dish with a "Y" yolk it was added after the fact and not by Bell.

The ONLY dish with the "Y" yolk is the 51cm, or 20" Dish, the 60cm, 90cm, etc are not made to take the "Y" yolk.

If you had ordered when you started all this back on the 22nd, you would be watching it now......lol

What about the "Express" Installation they advertise, not sure on cost but hey it might be worth a try. Or was that what the $99 was for.

Why pay if I can get it for free!

Anyway the Dish, SW44 and second LNBF from from Bell would cost me an Arm and a leg I'm sure. I found a guy who sells the whole kit in Toronto for $80.

Anyway when I picked up the 9242 the guy @ the store gave me a Superbowl promotion, $100 off of the $499, and bell is going to give me an extra 25% loyalty discount for a 2 yr term. So end price is $300 installed.

They also follow up with a phone survey every time you call them, BTW is the call centre in INDIA? anyone know?

Hmmm now I am confused.

$80 for a Dish, 2nd LNBF & SW44 is an amazing price.

I still think the Express Installation is the way to go.

Yes, that call centre is in India.

Default New Installation tommorow. Couple questions..

Hello everyone,

My house is fairly new, it is about 1 year old. I have been with Videotron (Cable) during that year. My house is a two-story (Basemenet, main floor, second floor). Here is my setup.

I have 1 TV on the main floor and 1 TV on the second floor. There is 1 Coax cable running to each TV (Wall Adapter)

I bought a PVR HD and HD (9241 and 6131). I will require an extra cable on the main floor.

Now my question is, will Bell use the cables that are already in my house ? Will they simply connect theirs (coming from the dish) to the one already in the house. I assume it is RG9 as it's a brand new house but I am not sure.

Thanks!

If the existing is RG59 they will have to change it to RG6.

Technically they should run all NEW but if the Tech is happy with it and you are prepared to sign a waiver, he may leave it and connect to it somewhere.

Usually, in a brand new house, do they usually put RG6 ?

Also, how will he be able to fish my cable on the second floor ?

Thanks!

It depnds on the Builders. I have seen lots of houses and even a new Condo wired with RG59.

He will NOT fish cables under the "Free" installation.

Also be honest, without me seeing your house it is pretty hard to even consider how he is going to get a line to any point on your second floor.....lol He might not even be able to attach a Dish to your house so that could be a mute issue anyway.

Good morning everyone,

OK, I've verified the existing cables and they are all RG6. If the Bell technician connect the existing cables (which are 1 years old and already fished) to the ones he will install outside, should it work fine or they really need to have 1 cables without any cuts.

Bell tech is suppose to be here this morning (with my luck I bet he wont show up)...

Thanks for the info!

He could combine the spicing of the 2 lines with a Ground Block.....Lets see what he does for you.

Default Installation with snow around

I am getting Bell to install a dish (as I am moving). Does anyone know what the procedure is for a tech to refuse an install do to excessive snow in the area? I ask this as the house I'm moving into has an elderly lady that only clears snow off the walkway and not at the side of the house where the dish needs to go. Also all the way around the house has a lot of snow piled up and it would take me hours and hours to clear the snow (if I even had the time).

It is a safety issue. If the Technician feels it is unsafe, he will not do it, that simple.

If it were you putting up a ladder and working 20 feet high in that area would you do it.?

The same thing applies inside the house. It is the responsibility of the Customer to ensure that the areas where the Tech is needing acces is clear and safe to work.

Lightbulb ExpressVU Question

Hello. I have a question and I know this is the best place to ask.

My grandfather has ExpressVU. He has an old SD box in his basement and he's just purchased a new HD TV. He wants to get the $199.99 HD box. Bell said they would install it for free. But he wants the SD box in the living room on the other TV. They want to charge him for that for some reason (he just wants to use all his equipment).

They have to install another LNB on the dish for HD. Can I have them run the new line to the living room and just switch the boxes around when they leave? Or is there a difference between the 2 LNB's.

I have StarChoice, and no matter what port a cable is connected to, it works for both SD and HD.

Any help with this would be very much appreciated as I can't get Bell to tell me yes or no.

Chris
