Hi All,
I have a Pio 1018 AVR and I am thinking of picking up a set of Angstrom Suono 200 LCR speakers. However, these speakers are rated at 6 Ohm's impedance. I can change the Pio 1018 to allow 6 Ohm speakers. But I have three questions. Are the Angstrom's hungry? I want to make sure the 1018 can handle them. By changing the 1018 to a 6 Ohm speaker setting, will I be driving the AVR too hard? Lastly, my surround speakers are in-ceiling speakers and are rated for 8 Ohms. In their speaker volume control box, I can change the impedance settings from 8 to 4 Ohms. I don't think I can go to 6 Ohms. Will setting them to 4 Ohms cause problems? Thanks in advance for any input! |

All 7 of my speakers are 6 ohm and the 1018 powers them just fine. Just follow the manual instructions to change it to 6 ohm mode.
I would leave the rear speakers at 8. And set to small. I have a pair of Angstrom 2.5 bookshelf as surrounds on my 1015 for the bedroom, they're pretty good.

I have 7 speakers on my 1018 with the 4 in ceiling surrounds @ 8 ohms and the fronts just shy of 6 ohms and the center is 4. Haven't seen or heard any issues yet. There is a thread here about the 6 ohm setting vs. the 8 ohm setting Here.

Impedance is one of those things that just never makes sense to me. I don't know why. Oh well.
Raypundo: Glad to hear that you're not having any problems. Judging by your comments, is it safe to say that you can safely run any speaker with a higher impedance setting than what an AVR's impedance is set to? ie. Having the 1018 set to 6 Ohms and running 8 Ohms speakers is no problem at all. |

I was playing my 1018 fairly loud yetserday, trying out my new subs now that they're broken in and playing some new CD's.
I was worried about my Sub Amp getting hot or shutting down. I use my old VSX-79 as an external sub amp. That turned out not to be a problem, it's got a fan built in. What happened is the 1018 got really Hot! And it was only driving Stereo 6 ohm speakers. The top cover is all vents and it was almost too hot to touch. I think they should have a fan in that thing. Maybe I should put an external fan on it? The good news is that it sounds really, really amazing. Does anybody else have a heat problem with the 1018? What would happen if i run all 7 speakers fairly loud? Should I do anything about it?

No heat issues on the 1018 for me even if I've had it running for longer periods of time. However, I'm running it at 8 Ohms on a 5.1 setup and I don't usually turn it up very loud atleast my wife won't let me turn it up
