I don't have a 9241, but I don't recall anyone ever posting that was an issue. The Resume option doesn't even appear unless you have already been watching that recording. All I can suggest is to try a reboot (hold the power button down for 10 seconds).

Ditto. I think since about Thursday, my 9241 no longer has the power on/perpetual please wait syndrome. My software revision has not changed from 232, but now all seems well again. I find it very odd, but I am not complaining.

When I turned on my TV Saturday morning I was concerned when I saw that the standby mode was active. I was concerned because 1) there was a good chance that the 9241 would freeze when I tried to take it out of standby via the Select button, and 2) I had specifically disabled inactivity standby in the preferences.

Well, the 9241 did not lock up when I used the remote to bring it out of standby, and my scheduled recordings occurred as expected. I still have the inactivity standby disabled, but that setting seems to be ignored now. Maybe this is Bell's way to avoid the lockup problem?

Default Power on seems to be working again

My 9241 also seems to be responding to the power button again.

Software is still showing V232.

Default Dialing out

It is my understanding that when the receiver is connected to a phone line, a "dialing-home" connection will be made usually every second month or so to verify inventory etc. Or, when ordering PPV.

Albeit that the remote/power on issue seems to be resolved, a situation seems to have cropped up around the same time that the power on became an issue. Or so it seems. The telephones in our house have a light that turns on when a line has been opened. During supper tonight, the phone in the kitchen lit up with the message "extension in use". My wife reports that this has happened quite a few times during the last few weeks.

I'm going to disconnect the telephone line on the 9241 to see if that stops the "dialing-home" scenario.

Anyway, just curious if anyone else has noticed this quirk.

Hi shredder2010,
Was this for a recording that was done, or for one that was still in progress? For recordings in progress, the Resume feature is missing.

My 9241 works like this:
Recording is completed.
1st time played. Choices of Start/Delete/...
Switch to Live TV and come back to the recording
2+ time played. Choices of Resume/Start Over/Delete/...

However, if Recording still in progress your choices are always View/Start Over/Stop Rec/...
There is no way to watch a program while it is being recorded, switch to live TV, then come back to where you left off.

Default Tuners 1 and 2

I'm sure this question has been answered somewhere in the forum but I can't find it. Sorry in advance if it has. My 9241 has only one lead coming in from my dish right now on a sw21 switch. This lead is connected to the Sat 1 input. The problem I'm having is that when I want to record a event, the PVR always wants to record on the second tuner which has no connection on it. This always means I get no recording,I'm stumped. What am I missing here. Does this PVR need to have two Sat lines in to function properly.

My Question has been answered. Yes you do have to have both Sat inputs connected.

Each tuner needs a feed to work properly. Covered in detail here http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=26721

Question Confused about 9241 EHD usage

Bell being Bell, there are of course no instructions whatever in the 9241 manual for connecting and using an external hard drive (EHD) to augment PVR recording capacity.

I have attached a 250 Mb USB pocket drive and I am wondering if when the internal drive is full, the PVR will automatically begin writing new recorded programs to the connected external drive ??

OR - Is the only use of the EHD the ability to archive off recordings from a full or almost full internal drive ?

I see no menu choice for designating to which drive (Internal or External) a newly scheduled program to be recorded should be written.

If anyone has figured this out, I'd sure appreciate a reply

Well for a start the drive you have connected does not even begin to come close to the specs issued by bell, so I would not expect too much success from it.

Also the 9242/9241 do NOT record to an external drive, the drive is there to allow you to achive recordings from the internal to the external.

Hi. New to this forum but need serious help.
Had a 9200 that appears to be toast (according to bell). Had no signal...going from error 015 to 002. Moved it to a different location and got the same thing.
Replaced it today with 9241. Have no HD Channels showing up in the guide. Ran check switch, everything's ok. Called bell and they're sending out an installer in 2 weeks. Anyone else had this problem?

Also, from reading the manual, I understood that you could record 2 programs at 1 time and watch a previously recorded one. With the 9200, both recordings would show up as 'recording' but with the 9241, I can't seem to figure out if the second program is even recording. I have fiddled with the cables, and read the manual over and over, but can't seem to grasp how this is supposed to be done. Am I an idiot or just used to the way the 9200 did things?

Angry Where does one find Bell's specs for a 9241 EHD

If Bell has actually published specifications for the types of EHDs that can supposedly (???) be successfully used with its Model 9241 HD-PVR, where oh where does one find and access these specs ?

Parting Shot: It is dishonestly misleading of Bell to promote this PVR's ability to work with an EHD without disclosing that you can't augment your live recordings capacity but only use the EHD as a warehouse for the offloading of old content on the internal HD that you want to archive or save.

A well designed system would by default treat the EHD capacity as integral with that of the internal drive and allow the user to select where he/she wants to write new future recordings - internal or external.

Typical of this terrible company !!! All hard sell sell sell and no credible AFTER sale support of customers.....

From Bell

You can connect your own external hard drive to the 9242 HD PVR if it meets the following requirements:

7200 RPM rotation speed
Between 40 and 750GB of capacity
Holds a single hard drive (enclosures holding 2 disks are not supported)
Plugs into an AC power outlet
USB 2.0 connection
No sleep mode (cannot power down when idle)
