This software glitch is really annoying, I mistakenly hit my power button last night and guess what, when I went to hit it again to turn the receiver back on, nothing. I had to do a full reset. I don't know how this defect could have passed testing. I wish we could roll back to the previous software until Bell fixes the issue.

As for the picture brightness. I still find it as dark on HD content as it was with the previous software version. Also when the receiver is set to 720p or 1080i and you switch to the S-video or composite output the picture still goes in and out of focus every 15-20 seconds. Very annoying.

My 9241 does the same thing, have to hold the power button.
Last night, I turned off with the remote, waited 10 seconds and it turned on OK with the remote.
Tried a few more times waiting longer each time and no problems.
It needed to be reset this afternoon again...
Anyone try disabling the auto update? The default is 0330

I reported earlier this morning that the problem appeared to be fixed since the remote was able to power on the receiver. We're back to square one. I was out tonight for a few hours and the system was powered off. When I returned home and tried to use the remote... nada.

So, as stated... back to square one. I'll try the previously reported BEV agent's cut-n-paste suggestion. But not holding out any hope.

Default power up problem

When i came back tonight i had to "reset on" my 9241 2 times, after the first time i had audio but no video/hdmi output, everything was ok after the second reset. I called bell and after talking to a senior technical support representative the first one told me that it is a general 9241 problem since update 232 and that every 9241 has that problem... (having to "reset on" the receiver) and that their engineers are working on a new update to solve the problem.

grc 42: as to disabling auto-update, that would stop updating your tv guide. i had to change mine to 5:30 am (when i never record anything) because if the receiver is recording while there is an update, it freeze and spin the cooling fan full speed until i reset it.

To those of you who speak french, good to know that the french technical service is in montréal, not in india

Thanks for the information Ashai.

You just saved me a couple of hours of work by not having to follow the BEV agent's stock answer.

The interesting thing is that the problem seems to be intermittent. That is, it wasn't working for 2 days and then seemed to clear up yesterday morning... followed by a return of the problem last night. Would you believe it's working OK this morning (Saturday, June 6). I just did a fast power on and did not check to see if the software has been updated.

[Edited to add... still v232]

Thanks again...

Thumbs down This is a Known Issue with Bell

Saturday 3:45pm June 6th after three calls to Bell I spoke to an agent in Montreal and this is a known issue with the latest software change that the receiver will not always turn on by remote or on the unit.
It will turn on if you re boot by removing the plug for 30 second then plugging it back in.
Bell is working on the issue.
In the interim they suggested that I turn off the screen saver that will assist in the problem but will not solve it.The set will turn off and on more frequently but I should still expect it not to turn on 100% of the time.

This issue has only happened since the software update on Thursday June 4 version 232 up until that time the unit has worked perfectly since March 2009.

I am glad to hear that I am not the only one with this problem that first showed up last week! I was beginning to think I had a defective unit!

I called tech support Friday evening. He had me go through a series of cable and power cord disconnects and resets. He left me with "the solution" ... pull the power cord for 30 minutes. Of course that did not help. And obviously all their techs have not been made aware of that this is a known firmware glitch ... why???

I can turn my unit back on after a minute or so ... but once it is off for a longer period I have to do the reset. It is like the unit "goes to sleep"!

I certainly hope they get a new firmware version out soon!

Default Rdshd srchd

Looks like that both channels have difficulties. Is it because of the new software or is it because they are both on transponder #9 ? should be a good idea if a real BEV tech be able to answer this ?

that is the service we have now that BEV support desk is in India &*&^%$^%

Default Remote Problems

I have encountered a very annoying remote control glitch that pre-dates v232. What happens is, from time to time, the receiver stops responding to the UHF remote. I can operate the receiver normally from another room when suddenly the 9241 decides to stop listening. Just about every time it can be fixed by using the remote in the same room as the receiver. I assume that the IR side of the remote re-syncs the receiver and the UHF side somehow. I've tried switching the UHF remote channel, but it doesn't help. And a couple of times I've seen the receiver (apparently) stop responding to the remote, and after a few minutes the receiver restarts itself and everything is back to normal.

A very strange box, this 9241.

This software glitch is certainly annoying! Since this 232 update has come, like everyone else, I have to hit reset on the power switch to turn the unit on. I wonder how Bell will compensate us for the annoyance?

Default bell 9241 problems

just a suggestion, if you haven't called bell yet about the "reset on" bug or the bad reception of rdshd/srchd, it would be nice to do so because the more people complain about it the more pressure they will have on them to promptly adress the situation, at least to go back to v231 in the meantime.

Since many people like me own their receiver (not rent), I wonder how can bell force updates that create major malfunction without immediate "go back" possibility, because technically they are breaking other's people property.

I just phoned Bell TV and raised hell. I told the guy taking the call to leave messages with his superiors and the technical staff to get this problem solved immediately. We are all getting fed up!

Why wasn't this new firmware properly tested before it was released!!!

I have come across another problem recently with the 9241. Sometimes when the unit is turned on a recording does not stop at the end of the program. I have never run into that problem when the unit is turned off and I have a recording schedule over night. I am wondering if this is another issue with the current firmware.
