Why would you "fix" something that is not broken? Shows run late, that is why the option automatically pads the start/end times for you. A few minutes here and there aren't going to kill you.

It can mess up back to back recordings if you run out of tuners though.

Question HDCP... Is this a receiver function only?

Hi all,

I have just bought my first HD TV (Samsung 32...350 ) and I would like to get an appropriate Bell receiver. After reading the many posts regarding the 9241, I am leaning towards trying to find a 9242.

There have been several threads on HDCP (Hi def copy protection) modes and DVI and whether or not it can be set to Yes or NO.

I assume that this is a receiver function as I cannot find anything in my TV manuals talking about this. I assume also that people seeing it activated in the menus, they are talking about the receiver menus not the TV. Am I correct in this assumption?? Is it done automagically providing the TV can handle HD?? If not, what is required to set HDCP to "Yes"?? Should I be worried in regards to the 9241 or 9242 and this function???

Please pardon my ignorance in HD TV matters.

Newbie,
TIA... Simon

HDCP is enabled on all Bell HDMI receivers as far as I know. The HDCP status is displayed on the second System Info screen. However, you can't disable it, otherwise everyone would do that

I wouldn't be too worried about compatibility though, especially on a new television. I just connected a 6131 to a Samsung LCD via HDMI, without any issues.

You need to test HDCP compatibility with your TV. I have two newer (2008) Sony TVs and they both do not negotiate HDCP properly with the 9241 receiver. This means you cannot watch any HDCP enabled programming. It seems many pay-per-view events and some movies are HDCP enabled. However, you can probably bypass this issue if you use component cables but I don't like this workaround. I'm hoping Bell fixes the 9241 with a future firmware release.

I have my 9242 connected to two HD TVs, one through HDMI and one through component. When I'm using the HDMI connected TV, it say 'HDCP: Yes'. When I'm viewing the Component connected TV, it says 'HDCP: No'. So the receiver automatically finds the connection type.

HDCP is for digital connections only (HDMI). Component is an analog connection and does not support HDCP - that is why your component connected TV reports 'NO' for HDCP status. Most if not all newer TVs are suppose to be HDCP compatible. But in reality, not all devices negotiate HDCP correctly. When the devices do not negotiate properly, the satellite company will blame the TV manufacturer and vice versa. In my case, I've tested a 6131 receiver with my Sony TVs and they report HDCP as 'YES' while my 9241 reports 'NO'. So I'm blaming the receiver in this case and hope Bell will release a fix soon.

Default PVR Issues

I just purchased the 9241 model. I only have 1 tuner hooked up as of now. I am having recording issues. I can only record a tv show that I am watching. I cannot schedule anything for recording. It says that it is recording but nothing shows up in my recordings. It says no signal in the schedule menu when the show was supposed to be done recording. Is this because I don't have the dual tuner hooked up yet. I thought I could still schedule something to record just as long as I watched the program with a single tuner. Am I wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

The default is to record to Tuner #2, as you do not have that connected this is why it is not working correctly. Add a second line.

Default No HDTV Audio ?

My 9241, HDMI-connected through a Sony model 820 HDMI A/V receiver-switcher gets no sound on HD prfogramming. Today, watching ABCHD, America Today, the sound disappeared when the program went to network HD.

Some of the earlier posts in this string suggest the same issue. But I could find no resolution.

I am about to pull the installation apart and run component cables to the Sony KDL40S4100 LCD from the 9241 and see if that helps.

Comments?

Default More, No HDTV Audio

It is a good thing that I made another round of the HDTV channels including the ABCHD that gave me sound problems this morning. It works now! There must have been some kind of BTV transmission issue this morning.

Right now, 14:15 ET, CBCHE (802) has no sound. while 804 CBCHW with the HD symbol in the corner has sound. What gives?

Default 9241 Help

Okay.... I'll be honest here, bit of newbie as far as installs go but here goes.

My HD equipment and 9241 were professionally installed at the end of Feb. Having some issues with switching between SD and HD programs getting the error 002 then having to go up and down to get them... ruins recording many times. But that's not my issue now (unless someone is familiar with this!)

My issue is this... I moved my tv to a different side of the room and only moved the cables around. Disconnected them from the receiver and the power inserter and marked that one with a piece of tape. Hooked everything back up and now I have no signal. I have a pretty good feeling that the inserter is not getting power properly. The little pin for the adapter doesn't seem to reach.
Anyway, now I have zero signal and not too familiar with running the check switch etc. I attempted to run both inputs to the receiver without the inserter but no luck.

Any input???

I had the same problem after a professional install in March. If I remember correctly I did a reset to defaults (Menu > 6 > 5) and a Check Switch. I *may* have done the power button reset routine too. In any case it seems to have fixed the problem.

Exclamation New firmware v232

I see this morning (June 3) that a new software version 232 was installed on my 9241 last night. I haven't had time to search out any of the new "features" yet. Has anyone spotted any improvements?

Default Reception problem on 2 channels from 9241

I have a 9241 and a 6131.

I have problems with 2 HD stations (860 src and 863 rds), and only on the 9241.

The problem is frequent audio loss and a bit less frequent video freeze.
At time the unit complains that it has lost the signal.

To narrow the problem I:
Checked all other HD channels: no problem.
Recorded from 863: same problem.
Reset the unit (more than once): same problem.
Let only one input cable connected: Same problem.
Used the other input cable: same problem.
Reset the unit: same problem.
Checked the same channel on the 6131: no problem.
Replaced the 9241 with the 6131: no problem.
The same stations SD work fine.

I am using a SW44, and every component checks ok.

The results seem incoherent, but I double-checked...

The issues started slowly more than a week ago. Then creeped up during the last 2 or 3 days,
to become unbearable...

Any suggestion?
