As was posted here earlier and a C&P from another site that references a VP's response to a subscriber regarding the upcoming code:
The new feature set, if all passes, includes the following:
- Far improved operational stability for channel tuning (far few lock-ups during channel change -- in fact, so far we have seen none from that cause)
- Far improved timer performance for DVR recording, and for PPV recordings (again, so far no failures)
- Far improved performance for playback of DVR recordings (again, so far no failures)
- New sorting criteria for recordings
- A way to jump to identified times of recordings (i.e. 1 hour in)
For the majority of us that were on A8, this is great news as we'll finaly get the long sought after features that BC delivered to a selected few hundred.
For those of us on BC just waiting for the box to die after too many reboots, this should be a life saver.
Do check out all the new features in the beginning of the BC thread.
Enjoy the improved stability that CC brings.
Have faith that while not 100%, it's the closest the box has ever been and that new and exciting stuff is in the pipe.
From my experience in the past several weeks, what was quoted appears true for the most part.
Unfortunatly my source of information that gave me a closer view than most is no longer available.
Haven't fully tested but it looks like parental locks will now hide locked out channels from the general guide, just like in the days of the 400 series.
So channels you do not subscribe to you can lock out and they won't appear. I was using the work around by setting up a favourite list. But this is simpler.
I think you must provide a password, however. Before you could set parental controls with a blank password.
Using old (pre-CC) recordings to test the stability of the new code isn't such a hot idea. Ever since the original release firmware it's been known than recordings seem to inherit some of the traits of the whatever firmware they were recorded with (sounds stupid, I know, but it does appear to be true...).
As someone mentioned earlier, a factory reset might smooth the transition a little too. My excitement has certainly been replaced by a sense of foreboding right now though. I'm not sure I want to go downstairs and test the machine now....
The first thing i did after checking if i had CC code was to RESUME a recording and kaboom, got my machine locked. I believe that this recording was already at the very end.
It took me less than 2 minutes to lock it. Can you beat this???
I have done the usual stuff (RESET) to get my machine going again. I did not retry to RESUME again that recording.
Ok, i just did another RESUME on the same show, and it seems the recording was not at the end.
To resume my actions before my machine lockup:
1- Turn-on the dsr530
2- go to menu to identify the version 00.cc
3- don't remember how i exited the menu, probably with the exit button.
4- use the DVR list button, and chosen to RESUME a recording
and then nothing... had to reset.
By the way, i made a mistake earlier when i wrote that a RESTARTED instead of RESUMED a recording. I have edited the original text.

The 530 has always done this but it would be nice if it would lock the channels out when you're channel surfing up and down like the 300 and 400 series receivers.
Since I'm at work, can someone confirm whether or not the DVI output is functioning? I checked my box briefly this morning and noticed that the red Timers light on the front was off. Upon powernig on the box, the red Timers light came on, so I checked and all my Timers were there (which is a very good thing) and I did indeed have the CC code.
However, I thought I noticed that I wasn't getting a picture with the DVI output (just Component). Of course I didn't have time to play with it so can someone confirm whether or not the DVI output is working? (Previous code [A8, BC] used to drop out all the time and menus were really slow to respond, but using Component output everything was fine.)
3 members got the correct week, they are:
gbarr14, satdude, SatTV1994
13 members were correct that the code would NOT be C4 or C8 but a later version, which CC is.
They are:
bigb, brownriggd, cellarboy, cory, dlegouff, gmd, gretsky, jackmil, JoBel, lumpy, NO-CRTC, satellite, Tim1
Congratulation to all that participated, we are all winners with CC.
A couple of the names were beta testers, but did not have priveleged information.
Heck even I got it wrong and I wasn't just standing on the doorstep, I was inside the house for crying out loud!
The overwhelming majority thought it would be C8 and would come after August 14th.
Had a lockup when watching a stored program. I was fast forwarding at 3x speed and it wouldnt stop until the end of the program and then it froze. Couldnt get to respond like with A8 where you could reverse out of it. Had to do a reboot. Otherwise much improvement and I like the time remaining feature.

Hey I am test engineer I double checked my results with newly recorded show and the second time got it to lock up once while holding down the FF button for about 10 seconds. I cant reproduce it all the time but there is still a bug there.

I was hoping this firmware update would fix it, but I'm still having problems using DVI - the screen goes black every few seconds. I have the cable connected directly to my TV (Samsung DLP - HLR5064). Does any with this TV have DVI working? Component is working fine - I guess I'll have to keep using component.
I'm quite positive that there was little if any work done on the DVI sections of code.
Mostly tuning failures and DVR trick mode fatal crashes.
I believe, for the most part, that this is substantially better.
They chewed off an rather large piece to fix since A8/BC.
I hope in the future they provide more frequent incremental 'adjustments' rather than such massive code changes that will clearly create some new unforseen gotches, of which I've only had a few in the past month.
I'd be happy with 2 releases a year with a few fixes and a few features along the way.
Trying to fix everything all at once is just asking for disaster.
Not sure if this is new with the CC code or not, but I see something in the system settings... under dvr settings there is an item called 'Reserved' with a toggle for 'on' and 'off'. The description at the bottom of the screen says that this is for setting the standby disk behavior capability.
WTF does this mean. That there is a second disk (external) capability? Or does it maybe mean to spin down the internal hdd after a period of idle?
I have been using DVI ever since BC came out on a front projector. The HDMI cable is 35ft long. I cannot remember the last time I saw a video drop. The only thing I have to do is turn on the project before the 530. I watched almost all of the NHL playoffs without issue.
Maybe it's your DVI cable, or the TV, or some kind of combination.

This came with the BC code. It has nothing to do with an external or 2nd HDD. What one CSR told me is that Reserved=ON, reserves space for the LOD buffer.
A few things I have noticed so far. In options video adjustments I loose the screen and it goes back to normal video mode on both units. I don't know if this was on the previous software, in diagnostic D top left shows hours since last reset, to the right of this it shows number of resets. So far so good.
The one thing I noticed today was that the skip forward seems to be a little sluggish now. Where it used to instant skip forward and I could go skip skip skip, now it takes a half second for each skip to go.
Does anybody know if the "new sorting criteria for recordings" fuction that we are suposed to have, actually is there? If so how do you change the sorting method?
In the DVR List screen you can toggle between DURATION / NAME / DATE - this allows you to change the sorting method.
One thing that now appears to be working again for me is Called ID. All the other features mentioned above also appear to be working for me.
Thank you *C
