Depends where you buy it.
Some shops are $35-75, but try here.
It's a web store from Edmonton.
I bought some Disec switches there, very good service and quite reasonable.
Of course you can get battery powered ones and units with 'scopes as well.
Any analog meter that reads the signal in REAL TIME will do the trick.
You still need a receiver to tell you if your pointed on the right sat, but at least your not moving the dish while the receiver is sampling ever few seconds and you keep going past peak.
I picked up my signal meter on ebay. It was quite a while now since I got it but I seem to remember paying $15 US. They delivered it in 3 days and that was that. If you are not worried about falling off your roof then this is the way to go (although if you keep having to listen to your TV for the signal strength or god forbid your 'better half' keeps yelling the signal at you. You may have already jumped off the roof). You just need a small jumper cable to go from the LNB to the meter, the other cable that would normally go from your LNB to the reciever plugs into the other side of the meter. Hope this helps.
Just have to update this post. I just checked on ebay and they are a buy now product for between 5-10 bucks canadian. Some have free shipping and the extra cable you would need.
Thanks ARR. Those are pretty cheap up there in Edmonton. When the guys came to hook up my dish they did not look at the TV at all. They did the complete alignment with some gadget (probably one of those meters). Years and years ago I helped a friend hook up his Bell dish and I sat in the house on a cell phone talking to him while he was outside letting him know when the bar on the screen was at the strongest.
There's a retail store in Mississauga on the north side of Matheson just west of Dixie. I'm sorry I don't know the name of the store. They sell analog meters for $20. I bought one there in September. not sure if the price has changed since.
