Due to the numerous threads on the DSR 500 and common issues to all interested in the DSR 500, we'll try to get all discussion going here.
Those symptons are NOT a known receiver bug, so you may wish to check your cabling and TV.bdoyledimou said:I have the DSR 500 (Hex 70) and have noticed that while watching a HD feed, there is a grey line running vertically at about the 33% mark of my tv (A GWII 60inch).
This ONLY happens on the HD channels, in any resolution, and doesn't happen when viewing the same HD channels through S-Video.
This also does not happen ALL the time (or does it and i just don't see it) and it doesn't happen on any other hi def source (video games or dvd).
Does anyone else notice this? Is it my tv, could it be my cables, or could it be the reciever itself?

I subscribe to a titanium plus package but maybe I need to change some of the east or west feeds to maximize my selection of HD channels. On closer inspection on my dual stacked dish I see that the DSR500 is not connected to the switch at the dish but rather directly to the cable labelled SAT A. I presume this happened years ago when a contractor fixed a cable and tweaked the dish. When I connected it properly I got a signal strength of zero so I presume I need a new switch and then all my worries will be solved.
Is a 2x2 or 2x4 switch inexpensive and easy to come by or should I call *C and go through the rig a marole of having them dispatch someone.....
Cheers

Not sure how you got ANY HD, SAT A is ANIK F1 and is the core English channels. SAT B is ANIK F2 and has ALL the HD and non English content.Egghead said:2: I find that I only recieve maybe 2 or 3 of the HD channels, is this normal? If you are planning to use 3 or 4 receivers it would be better to upgrade to the Qaud dish...I'm not sure if you could still take advantage of SC's $99 dish upgrade offer, but people who need a upgrade for dual sat reception can get it done for $99 by calling SC... Since you already had a dish that should have been able to support dual satellite reception you probably would not qualify, but I would call and try anyway suggesting that you need it for your new DSR500 might work?
Its a Sony GWII and my DVD player is an Upconverting model (to 720p).digitaldude said:Those symptons are NOT a known receiver bug, so you may wish to check your cabling and TV.
What type of display and brand is the TV? There have been a few TV's that had known incompatabilities with the 500, but it turned out to be the TV's firmware version.
It may just be a sibgle box problem.

May be your unit.No problems for me.bleppky said:When I am watching an HD channel and I bring up the programming guide, the guide flickers repeatedly, so it is unreadable. If I scroll down the guide to where it displays SD channels, it stops flickering.
If I am watching an SD channel and I bring up the guide, it does not flicker, even if I go to the HD channels in the guide.
Any ideas as to what is causing this?
Perhaps try the Front Panel RED button.bleppky said:When I am watching an HD channel and I bring up the programming guide, the guide flickers repeatedly, so it is unreadable. If I scroll down the guide to where it displays SD channels, it stops flickering.

The other forum is full of $H1T.satellite said:Does anyone know if there is any truth to the whole DSR510 thing going on at the other forum? (http://www.canadian-tv.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=Hardware&Number=206034&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=all)
I've lost track of what is an April Fools Joke and what has some truth to it...
My My, digitaldude, you certainly are opinionated ain't ya!digitaldude said:The other forum is full of $H1T.
Almost everything there is bogus on the last day or so. You can take that to the bank.
About the only thing I saw of any truth in there very well done hoax was the impending release.
Why Thank-You, I think that means I have an opinion. That's a good thing isn't it?mightymike said:My My, digitaldude, you certainly are opinionated ain't ya!

BTW, I was bit surprised by your revelation that you didn't know what are (were?) "red-jaggies" ...
I think the problem might be with the Yamaha receiver. I had a Yamaha RX-V992 connected to my DSR 500 and never had a problem with volume on any channel. However, since upgrading to a Yamaha RX-V1400, I have this problem. The volume on a handful of stations is very low. I haven't figured out how to fix it. Everyone keeps saying it's normal, but I don't think so.Crispy said:Ok,
I have it hooked up to my Yamaha receiver via optical cable. Problem is that non-digital audio channels come in very low.
I have the dsr 500 set up for digital under under digtal audio and stereo under analog channels.
You really have to cranck up the volume for some of these channels which is fine until you switch channels and get blown out of your seat.
ALL the channels are Digital.Crispy said:Ok,

Please tell me their is something I am missing here?
The ExpressVU HD box has a setting to send both PCM and Dolby digital so this problem never crops up.
