Its a new receiver & new tv so I'm in the process of getting everything setup & so far, so good.....the 600 remote "talks" to the tv; both the mute & volume, up & down, work fine....
My question is:
When I want to turn everything off, I use the power button on the 600 remote to power off both the receiver & the tv....the receiver turns off & the tv "turns off", but only to a "sleep" mode, rather than turning right off....tech support at SD told me that it was supposed to work that way, so the tv is always ready to be turned on.....
Does that sound right?.....other than using the tv remote to turn it right off, is there a setting that I haven't found yet that will let me use the 600 remote to turn the tv right off?.....
Thanks for the quick reply, 57. Very much appreciated. Shaw Direct has unit ID or something like that where you can program multiple remotes with receivers in the house so that 1 remote will work with 1 receiver. Something like that. If I remember correctly it was a 3 digit code like 000,001,002 etc up to 007 I believe. Is that what you mean by "base" code. I wasn't aware of this but now that I think about it this particular setup is 003. I have 1 other 600 in another bedroom and a 630 in the living room. Maybe I'll take a look at this later and give this remote another shot before I return it. I'll post here tomorrow with the results. Thank you.
The base code would be the one that the box comes with before you make any changes. In this case I would assume that it's 000. If you change the box to 000 (or 001?), then the remote you purchased may work...
IF you are not in 'base' mode or '000', then you may find even a Harmony tricky to get set up. Harmony assumes 000, but you can switch it to the other modes, (001,002,003 etc) but you need the original remote as it will go through a quick learn to determine what mode you are in. So yes, Harmony will work, but it really helps to have a working remote already on the proper mode. I have about 5 Shaw remotes I would be willing to sell some.
Thanks folks. I used another remote in the home to change the code to 000 and I just changed that receiver to another one. Then I tried the replacement I bought yesterday and it worked almost immediately. I never would have known that the "base" code had to be set at 000. You saved me a trip back to the store and probably more money too. Thanks again.
Just purchased a new LG OLED55C7P TV that has the Magic Universal Remote included. When setting up the Set Top Box it shows "Shaw Direct" as a manufacturer however the remote does not recognize the receiver. I cancelled "Shaw Direct" and went in and selected "Motorola". The remote still does not recognize?
Called LG and they indicated that I should call SD. Called SD and they said it was an LG problem. Spend a couple of hours with LG trying to remedy this situation. They had me download the latest software and try again. Still does not work?
Just wondering if anyone else out there is having an issue with universal remotes not recognizing the SD receivers? Major pain in the butt having to use two receivers for turning TV on & off as well as volume etc.
@thundercraft I moved your post to this thread. It sounds like you have to use your existing Shaw remote to change the receiver code to 000 - see the previous discussion.
Tried to return remote to "0000" however I find that the "0" no longer works on the remote. Seem to have started after the new firmware upgrade? Anyone have any ideas or has anyone encountered this since the upgrade?
Almost no third-party remotes have ever understood the Shaw Motorola boxes. A big mistake in programming over the years, that never gets fixed. They all must think it is some other box in the lineup. The ones that DO work are the true learning remotes, like the widely-available Logitechs. Sometimes, you can even teach a Logitech the Shaw box, and then teach the TV remote from that.
I would try that however as I stated when I push the "0" on my Shaw Direct remote it does not work? Seems to have stopped working when the new firmware downloaded a couple of weeks ago. All the other buttons work fine except for the "0" ???? This is the third remote from SD that is giving me problems!!!!
...when I push the "0" on my Shaw Direct remote it does not work? Seems to have stopped working when the new firmware downloaded a couple of weeks ago.
Sometimes it's just a poor contact and pressing hard, or moving the button around while pressing may remove any oxidation that makes that button not work.
You can use acetone (yes, acetone) and Qtips to clean contacts. Or denatured alcohol. Pop open the remote with a knife, or putty knife, to avoid damaging it with screwdrivers.
Also NOTE that the manuals covering the Shaw remotes are historically, notoriously, and maddeningly incorrect when it comes to matching up WHICH remotes use WHAT number of zeroes, and how to change the settings. An email to Shaw with the exact part number from the back of your remote will help, and don't let them send you to a page with a manual on it: ask them for the exact method. Then save that method in a file somewhere, for next time.
We just got a Sharp 60-inch TV (LC60P62U) and I'm trying to set my two remotes to control the TV's volume and mute.
The remotes are an RF600 and a URC550. They have the same instructions and I've used them on prior TVs without difficulty, including two Sharp TVs.
Somehow, this TV is having some trouble liking these remotes LOL. For example, I needed to that "Point and Press" method to set the remote code even though I got it to read back #026, but it wouldn't work when I set #026 or any other Sharp code for that matter. Only the "Point and Press" method worked. So the remotes will turn off the TV.
But I can't get either remote to control the volume and mute when I'm on SAT mode. The best I can do is to get both to control the volume when I press TV mode, but not mute. I went through the steps that should work for setting the volume/mute that will work on the SAT mode involving pressing ENTER, pressing SAT there's blinking and pushing, etc. All the steps seem to work with all the correct blinking, but it doesn't work.
I tried the steps on Shaw Direct for the more advanced remotes for "master volume" involving pushing 9-3-3 instead, but it's clear my remotes don't respond to that.
Thanks @JasperJoe for your reply. I've been on this site for years and never realized there was a thread for the remotes. So my bad, as if I'd seen the thread I would've realized that the remotes are simply somewhat dysfunctional with this new TV due to the age of the remotes.
@TheHans : Go to the URC website (for the URC remote) and you should find instructions there for your URC remote. The "global volume lock" functionality instructions should be listed there. If you can get the remote to work when in TV mode, you should be able to get whatever functionality works there, to work for master power and global volume lock, or whatever it's called for your particular remote.
Thanks for the suggestion @57. I went there and neither of my two remotes is listed there. I looked at the instructions for that "global volume lock" for one of the other Shaw remotes and coincidentally, I tried to follow those instructions yesterday as they're the same general instructions on the Shaw Direct site in the tech support area. But unfortunately those instructions don't work with these two remotes I'm using.
With my URC550, I can at least get it to work via the SAT button for the volume, though not for the mute. With the other one, the RF600, it won't work the volume using the SAT button, only if the TV button is pushed. And also won't work with the mute. I have a few other URC550s around due to prior receiver replacements and I might just use another URC550 instead of the RF600 as at least it's somewhat functional for what I want.
The post on the forum was helpful. With that programming, now the RF600 remote works the volume while in SAT mode. I had the manual for the UFC550 and that was what I was using to program both remotes. So at least now BOTH remotes will adjust the volume, which is great, although neither will mute for whatever reason. Thanks very much for that @57!
I've never used Shaw Direct, but I've programmed a lot of different remotes for a lot of devices. Here are a few suggestions:
Make sure you follow the instructions for programming the codes EXACTLY and remember to press ENTER to lock in the code. I've made the mistake of skimming the instructions and thinking the remote wasn't working when it was my fault. If you can't program code 026 when the readback gives you that code, then you're probably doing something wrong.
The RF manual has more codes for Sharp TVs, so yours might be in the new list.
If you resort to the Point and Press method and you end up with a code that only gives partial results, try again skipping the first time that your TV turns off. Sometimes I've found a better code further down the list.
I thought about what you said and it occurred to me that I didn't try the code read back with the RF600 remote, only with the URC550 remote. So I tried both remotes and the URC550 still said #026 (and I tried like four times to make that one work yesterday and it didn't), but the RF600 said #053! So I tried #053 on both remotes and it worked. Very odd. It isn't even on the list of Sharp codes. It's under codes for JC Penney LOL. Unfortunately, the mute still doesn't work on either remote. Just the volume, like when I did the Point and Press method. Also very odd. I tried other buttons on the remotes to see if the TV responded to one of those as mute. But none did. I'm OK with just the volume and the turn off. Thanks for your suggestions.
I am in the same boat I have a newer TV and can get the on off and volume to work but mute won't. The TV manufacturer has probably tweeked the codes and the Shaw Remotes don't have the newer codes as they predate the TV manufacture.
Philips HLT3110B/79 sound bar remote control code for IRC600
I need the 5 digit remote code for my Philips Sound Bar model HLT3110B/79 for my Shaw Direct Universal Remote IRC600. I have tried the search feature and it does not work.
We have Shaw Direct 630 HDPVR and two HDDSR600 receivers. Two remotes are IRC600 and one is URC600. All Motorola.
Main TV is a Toshiba Regza and the other two are Insignias.
I have programmed all three using the method in the manual where you keep pushing the CH+ until the TV switches off. This works fine for all controls it seems, except the Source button. This on all three TVs.
Does anyone have the Source button working with the Shaw supplied remotes?
Any suggestions on how to get our's working? I contacted Shaw chat line, but that did not help!
I have not tried inputting actual codes. The Motorola manual has a long list for Toshiba codes that are not model specific. I don't have any for the Insignia TVs. Would an actual code make any difference?
The input buttons on the individual TV remotes work, but that means I have to always have two remotes with good batteries for each TV.
My source button works on the supplied remotes with the 600 series remotes on my Vizio and Philips TVs and 500 series remotes on my Vizio and Magnavox TVs
