Fair enough -- I notice, however, that I can't just enter a channel when it's "off" and have it "turn on" and display.
This may be an issue with scheduling recordings using my HD-PVR -- it's not going to know whether the unit is "on" or not, and I haven't seen a discrete "ON" IR code ("POWER" is a toggle).
You need either software which senses picture (not just video sync)/sound, or hardware/software which senses the actual power status (perhaps by looking at the display), and toggles power if needed.
You'll notice a round spot directly to the right of the front panel display, that's where the IR sensor is. If you shine a light on the front of the receiver, you can usually see it better.
I found it is the same codes as any of my other Starchoice decoders.
My Harmony remote did not have to be changed from its 505 setting.
I am not blasting my 605 but it should work through lirc.
Are you looking for lirc blasting?
Just use the one that comes pre-setup in lirc for

I just got Shaw Satellite installed and noticed that on the back of the HDDSR 605 (Purchased from Shaw) there is only 1 Coax connector which is labled Sat...???
There isn`t any "Out-Put" Coax connector to hook up my Home Toshiba DVD Burner to record TV programs...???
I went to my local "Brick" to see what their Shaw Direct HD Boxes looked like, and sure enough the HDDSR 605 at The Brick has 2 Coax connectors on the back, one labled Sat. and the other labled UHF...
I didn`t go around to the other stores to check on their Shaw Direct HD Boxes, but perhaps I should...
I called Shaw to explain this and the rep. told me that the HDDSR 605`s don`t have 2 Coax connectors on the back, and that I must be mistaken...!!!
She said to use the RGB connectors on the back of the Box, but my DVD only has RGB "Output"..."No RGB Inputs" There is a single RCA Video connection as well...
I want the very best quality connections I can use, so I don`t want to use the RCA Video connection (Poor Quality)
Have I been Ripped-Off by Shaw selling me some "Odd-Ball" old stock HDDSR 605...
Any ideas as to what I should do now...
Thanks for any suggestions or comments...

All DSR 605 units would be the same as well, so I don't think The Brick's model is different than what you have. I'd say one of them may have been the DSR 600, but that one doesn't come out until Monday (according to This Thread
The HDPVR 630 is identical except it has an additional coax input for "SAT 2".
Neither the 605 nor 630 have a Coaxial output, but as stated you should be able to use the composite video and stereo audio (RCA) outputs to connect to your DVD Recorder. The Recorder will need to be set to "Line in" or similar, instead of channel 3.
The "UHF" connection is indeed to attach the UHF remote antenna.
Im in the same boat. I was rather disappointed in the fact the my 630 has no S-Video jack on the back. I have my Bell 9242 hooked up to my Toshiba DR-7 via S-Video/audio and it gives me a nice down converted 16X9 picture off of a HD channel. Now with Shaw D's 605/630 I had to use the composite jacks and all it gets is a 4X3 picture, even on a HD channel.
With my old receiver, I was able to send the signal via RG6 coaxial to a television located in my bedroom. Obviously I can no longer do this directly from my 605 receiver. Are there any adapters available that would allow me to connect RCA plugs to RG6 coax?
Why don't you call or email SD and tell them that you didn't realize that there wasn't a coax line out on the 605. Ask them if you could trade it for the newer 600. Of course there are compromises you'll have to make with that unit but might be a cleaner solution.
Cheapest solution to convert RCA outputs to coax for the 605 is to use a old vcr. I've had some bad luck finding RF modulators that work well.
The 605 is worth 2x the 600, if you going to trade it in.
Though Shaw Direct has not made an official announcement about this; customers that want to subscribe to NFL Sunday Ticket, NHL Centre Ice, NBA League Pass and Big Ten Network Extra Games will likely need a 600 series receiver this fall. I wouldn't do anything right now. I'm sure Shaw Direct will have upgrade deals for those with 500 series equipment. We should probably know in the next couple of weeks what is happening.
gzink, jbracing24, and Dkopel - a big THANKYOU for your responses. I ordered an RF modulator online yesterday, and look forward to hooking it up upon its arrival. Should the modulator give me problems - I'll dust off the VCR!
the installer that did my "move" laughed and said they were sworn to secrecy when I asked about it.....
