I set up a Manual recording timer with Weekly Frequency. After some time, I deleted the timer, however, it still shows up in the Upcoming REC screen.
In addition, the timer was set to fire starting Sep 20, 9pm. However, yesterday, at 9:30pm, I realized that the timer is already active as the 630 indicated that dual recordings are in progress....of course, there was nothing being recorded on the 2nd line. However, it locked the channel changes until the other scheduled recording (not the manual recording timer) ended.
Any ideas on how to clear/delete this manual timer for good.

I couldn't find if this issue had been resolved. I'm wondering, as I have something similar. I have a manual recording timer that's set up under Upcoming REC. The thing is, I didn't do it. It's just there. If I delete it, it disappears from its spot, which is kind of in the middle of the upcoming list. It then moves to the first spot on the upcoming list and it won't allow me to delete if from there. If I delete it from its original spot, then exit the screen and go back in, it's just back in its original spot. I have no idea what it is or how it got there. But I wouldn't mind getting rid of it permanently.
The only place it shows up is on the Upcoming REC list. It has no information for time or anything. It just says it's a manual recording with a number afterwards. Has anyone else seen something like this?
1. Last night Lie to Me was set to record on one recorder and Big Bang Theory was set on second. Lie to Me did not record. This morning it was still in the upcoming list and the recording light was on. Selected the recording and chose stop this recording. The front panel light was still on but the program was removed from the list. If it had been still recording, the terminated recording did not appear in the list of recordings. Had to do a front panel reset. (second one in about three weeks of use). (all HD) Castle was also set to record later and did not.
2. While watching playback of recorded Up in the Air, there were many moments of short video glitches and audio drop outs. Maybe a couple dozen during the movie (1:50 min). Recorded a couple of weeks ago on either 281 or 282, don't recall and didn't look before deleting.
Ard -- problem number one is most likely "tuner lockup" which seems to happen from time to time.
I've had it happen twice, always there was no particular reason for it -- not taxing the system, no power outage, no strange issues predating the lockup.
So a problem with no warning that will cause 630s to not record when they should. I suspect tuner lockup will be one of the problems that haunt the 630 and annoy us all.
Hopefully this issue is on the list on things to address next firmware.
Problem #2 has been reported by others here a lot, so you're not alone. I haven't had this particular problem though. I've had a few, but far less than I did on the 530.
Ok, this might be getting down into the overly picky category, but aside from the quirks and issues already discussed in this thread:
Viewing by "Interest" there is no way to see which programs are on a subscribed channel or not except to actually select the program in question and select "more information" - not even the channel numbers are displayed until you do this.
I understand that one program might have more than one air date upcoming and it's possible to have one upcoming on a subscribed channel and another on an unsubscribed channel but it would be nice if there was some grey-out or ability to remove programs that only appear on unsubbed channels. In fact, the lack of this functionality makes this feature almost useless.
Missed recordings is totally unexceptable, period!
Drop outs, even minor, are also unexceptable.
When I first got my 530 (didn't trade it in so paid full price, $400 for the 630) I had many problems with audio dropouts. As time went on this improved without a firmware update so I am guessing the problems were with the networks or Shaws handling of the network feeds. Recently I have had no problems with recordings or audio on the 530. It never didn't record a show it was suppose to record!
So am I happy with the 630. No, for the reasons above. The 530 was more trustworthy in recent times, other than the frequent resets needed. I missed no recordings and the video and audio was pretty much trouble free.
Shaw needs to fix these problems. I am aware that other people have reported them, but everyone who experiences these problems needs to report them so they will take it seriously.
I have not been impressed with Shaws customer service. They promised firmware updates and features for the 505/530 series and didn't deliver. They turned my HD201 and 500 into bricks and I got to buy new hardware at a reduced price. They turned it into bricks, it should have been free! They are about to do the same with the 505/530 models, if they ever get their new bird up. So far I have five Shaw bricks sitting in the basement.
I would trade the 530 for another 630 but I am not prepared to do so until Shaw fixes the 630!
I tried searching for PPV movies on last night, and the results were pitiful. When I checked on the guide there were lots of PPV movies on that I was interested in, but when searching using the today/PPV movie/all genres search terms hardly anything showed up in the list. So, useless.
My other nitpick about search is not so much the unsubbed showing, but I'd like to search only HD programming and I don't see an option for that -- unless I missed it. I don't care if the show I want is on countless Standard Def CTV stations, I only want to see the HD viewings. And I don't want to hit info on every one to determine this either.
Just wondering if having 45 new series recording shows set up would cause pixelation on some HD channels? I had no trouble before i had these shows set up. I did a soft reboot and removed all the series recordings and so far no more pixelation. Anyone else have this type of situation? THANKS!!
Just received and activated the 630 yesterday and have already missed a recording. Came home to see the "rec" light still on well after it should have finished and nothing in the PVR list. Had to manually stop the recording which then caused a reboot. Not very happy, less than 24 hours of ownership and at least 5 reboots. Good thing I kept the 530 which recorded the show perfectly.
Manual timers definitely do not work. I tried again to set up two weekday manual timers. They worked perfectly on Monday, but both didn't record today and neither appear in the upcoming recordings. Hopefully the next firmware update can address.
I was watching football this w/e and paused the game then continued but when the 630 gets to the point when the show was suppose to end it quits recording even if the game is still on. If you pause something it should pause and continue into the next program not quit recording. They need to fix this quickly because it's ridiculous.
I read your explanation in post 75. I encountered a problem last night with the 630's understanding of "current Program" and "previous program".
I was watching Monday Night Football on TSN HD. The Guide showed the program as lasting from 7:00 pm to 10:15 pm (correctly). At haftime (about 8:30), I put the 630 on Pause and went the store, back in less than a half-hour expecting to watch the game from the LOD buffer. The results (unlike the 530) were dismal, but basically parts of the program were not there, and it eventually just jumped to the live program. I noticed though that the channel banner at the bottom of the screen (push the Enter button to see it) displayed TSNHD, program No Data, and time 9:00 to 9:30, 9:30 to 10:00, and 10:00 to 10:30 at various times. In oother words, the 630 had no idea what program it was showing or its scheduled time - although the Guide data was clearly correct for the whole time interval! So it appears that the 630 was operationally disconnected for the Guide data. So, based on your explanation for LOD, it was flushing the buffer every half hour in a 3 hour plus program.
How did it happen (I guess): Between 8:00 and 8:30, Ottawa was hit with a serious thunderstorm and downpour, and the signal was lost frequently ("Re-Acquiring Satellite Signal"), but the power never went out, and the 630 did not reboot. When I put it in Pause, and left for the store, the signal was back and strong, but the 630 was obviously wounded. The LOD function did not work correctly. By the way, the channel banner with program information cleared itself up at 10:15 when a new program (the second game) started - and the banner matched the Guide again.
Please add this to the problems list. It's a common thing to chase long programs from the LOD buffer - and I never had a problem with the 530 implementation.
Still like the 630! The HD picture looks better with pure HDMI links. Etc., etc.
Works as designed I guess! I have things set to record and want to assess a PPV so I schedule recording(which would give me the 5 minute preview). Because of that I get the last half hour of the evening news. No warning...nothing! Useless piece of junk! I would be stronger right now but I would lose my post privileges.
Manual timers don't work.
Doesn't warn about conflict, just doesn't record.
More glitches in picture and sound(fractional skips) probably related to 2.5 inch 5200rpm disk not keeping up as someone alluded to.
Comes out of a watched program on another program that you might delete accidentally if you don't pay attention instead of keeping it's place.
Shows channels not subscribed to as "subscribed"
Rebooted only once post firmware update. After the reboot, I installed a fan blowing air directly on the side where the minuscule HD is.
I noticed the box was hot and since a fan stabilized my first 530 enough to make it very reliable, I figured: same brand, same problems, same solution? It's worth a try. Let's see if this helps...
Had the "record light on, no show recorded" problem last night. It would have been around 8 pm est/6 mst. The box rebooted all by itself when I went to check the record list. I noticed that after it was back up, the guide data was updated. I'm wondering if the problem arises when the guide updates or if it was a crazy coincidence.
This almost feels like those of us who have the 630 are actually beta testers. Man, I feel sorry for those that paid full price.
I don't have a phone line hooked up to the 630. Never required it in 10+ years of 4xx and 5xx receivers as I don't bother with pay per view. I noted this morning that the receiver had gone into screen saver mode. When I clicked on the channel up button, I got a message that the receiver was unable to call home. Had to hit cancel on this message about 15 times. I wonder if this is causing some of the scambling people have noted and I wonder if this is going to be an ongoing problem because I'm not putting a phone line into the back of the receiver.
Parental Locks: I set mine to TV: 18+, Movies: Adult. Mostly because I don't want to see H**NY W*T NURSES or other such titles in the guide. My son is learning to read and I don't need those kinds of questions.
After 12 hours - EVERYTHING in the guide is parentally locked, even cartoons. I set the TV locks to NO LOCKS and everything is still Parentally Locked. The only way to get rid of it is to disable parental controls altogether. This is repeatable behavior and the same thing has happened twice since I got it.
And another thought - based on the similarities between this 630 and the 530 (even some of the bugs) I'm 90% certain that the never appearing firmware upgrade from the 530's is running on these boxes. A couple of months ago, I saw a 530 from an ex-shaw employee running F/W version 0.13 with 14 day guide, 2 tuner recording, search functions, etc. I only got to see it for a few minutes, and I can't remember if the OSD was identical to the 630, but I remember the F/W version....
Makes me even more curious to know what the heck is going on with these boxes.
yes - I have also had issues with parental Locks. Apparently is has to do with the guide again. If it cannot tell what rating is on a show, it will go conservative and lock it. I think they need to rethink that strategy.
I have gone old school and gone back to locking channels, and hiding them, leaving title and program rating unlocked. Works better, but not perfect.
Update on my pixelation issue. I called. Did a soft reset. I typically leave the unit on all the time unless I see a pending upgrade in the target firmware line. The CSR said that minor updates could occur overnight without affecting the firmware version, as shown, and that I should turn it off each night. Maybe there is a another or deeper version number not displayed on screen. I never knew about these minor updates, and I am still skeptical that this is correct. He did say this was an issue reported previously and should be fixed with an update.
Regardless, I was able to narrow down my issues to Tuner2, both playback and live. You can tell what channel each tuner is tuned to in the status screen. So after leaving my 630 off last night, I have not seen any problems yet in my 15mins of testing. Here's hoping.
And also new owner of the HDPVR 630 (for about 2 weeks, received it in late August)
After 2 weeks of use, I have to say, this receiver is a dissapointment. The 3-second lag before the Guide screen comes on and the random crashes/reset. Not to mention the fact that there is no actual button on the remote to switch between your favorites; everytime you want to do that, you need to do this annoying multi-button combo on your remote: FAV button--> scroll and select your desired favorite list --> ENTER button -->BACK button
What a pain in the ass. And this is when the receiver actually responds to the commands because most of the time it doesn't.
The HDMI output really makes a difference as far as image quality but navigating through the system is really not fun.
Anybody agree?
I really hope they address these issues with the next update...
What I have done is set up a new Favorites grouping similar to all channels but removed the promo, religious, legislature, and most unsubscribed channels. I do NOT hide the grayed out channels in guide settings as I want to see them and be able to open them up on this new grouping when there is a free preview offered (i.e. Super-stations preview). Also there are also a couple of grayed out channels that are active in the Ontario Value Package. When this Favorites group is pre-selected, it becomes my default guide.
This is the first PVR I’ve owned. My main genre of recording will be auto racing on the weekends. “Search by Interests”…”auto racing genre” will only bring up Nascar related events, which is fine. To find the other auto racing events, I’ve had to go into “Search Alphabetical” for IZOD (Indy car) and FORM for F1. Having extended recording time is essential for Nascar events, as they are often delayed for weather and other red flags. I just hope the maximum 90 minutes is long enough without resorting to Manual Recordings, as I am used to longer recording extensions with Media Center.

What channels do you know of that are grayed out? I haven't checked yet.
