According to this review on cnet, this receiver is inferior to others like the Onkyo SR605 because it only has HDMI 1.2, not 1.3. http://reviews.cnet.com/av-receivers/yamaha-rx-v661/4505-6466_7-32378947.html?tag=box4505

I am not concerned that the Yamaha receiver can not decode Dolby TrueHD, as I a confident any good HD-DVD or Blue-ray player will do this.

How does this receiver compare to the Denon AVR-788? I am leaning towards the Yamaha due to great power output (105 vs 85 watts per channel) and the phono input, but the Denon has HDMI 1.3.

Is HDMI 1.3 a big deal? According to this forum, it is not. http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=533629 Do others agree?

Well - you've read what I've read. I guess it doesn't hurt to have 1.3, but I wouldn't pay a premium for it. Especially something that is label 1.3a - u know there's going to be at least a 1.3b coming out soon - and it will do something the 'a' cannot. You going to upgrade yet again?

From what I've read - nothing is gained by having 1.3a on your receiver. If it comes with it and is a good price - sure, I'd go for it. But in the end, 1.3 is not the deal breaker for me. I'd be more concerned about the video scaling, number of HDMI inputs, bass managment, and of course power of the amps long before 1.3 vs. 1.2 (or even 1.1) would come into the equation.

Just my 2 cents - whatever floats your boat ;)
