I agree. I can't see the NHL making specific packages which exclude games at a lower price point. I'm pretty sure the NHL is aware that most people who buy centre ice don't have the time to watch all of the games. Most people buy it to follow their out of market team (for me its to watch the red wings). Offering all the out of market games just makes it easier from a distribution standpoint.
What I would like to see on centre ice is the removal of the blackouts. I use shaw as my cable provider out west. CBC and Sportsnet are included in basic cable. Since you need cable to buy centre ice, you're paying for these channels. What does it matter if they also air (with commercials) on the centre ice channels.
This would help solve the Saturday night issue where the NHL sells CBC the rights to air games nationally, but CBC opts to air different games in different regions. There are 7 Canadian Teams with their own regional CBC stations. Generally there's back to back games. East West. So that's a 4/3 split for early late games. You never know which configuration it could fall in (which teams playing away games). Even if your cableco carries 3 CBC HD channels, they can still miss games.
Not to mention the past few years Shaw has kicked in gamecentre live for free when you buy centre ice. Any time its a CBC, TSN, or Canucks game, I can't watch it online (or on my phone).
