Smile Cogeco & HTPC?

I need some help PLEASE!

I have a Hauppage HVR-2250 PCI-e card and am based out of Burlington. We have basic cable input into the house. The LG TV I have in my bedroom picks up QAM channels such with the xx.yyy channel formatting, however, my Media Center PC with the Hauppage will NOT pick up any of these channels.

I have done the scans multiple times with both the BETA and standard release of the Peter Near QAM patch (http://thegreenbutton.com/blogs/pnea...ows-7-rtm.aspx)

and have also followed the fully automatic setup -vs- the partial manual setup as noted on the Hauppage webpage (http://www.hauppauge.com/site/suppor...t_hvr2250.html)

stating "Note to Media Center users:
If you want to use WinTV-HVR-2250 to watch and record analog cable TV with Microsoft's Media Center application under Windows XP or Windows Vista, do the following:

When you run Media Center, go to Tasks / Settings / TV / Set Up TV signal
At 'Set Up your TV signal', click Next
At "Regional settings', make sure your region is correct and click Next
At 'Download TV options', click Next.
At "TV Signal', click 'I will configure my TV signal manually' and click Next
You will then see: Cable / Satellite / Antenna. Chose the source of your TV signal (Cable for use with analog cable TV) and click Next.
Click through the rest of the settings, set up your Guide listings and click Finish. Then return to the main menu.

"

but still I only get the basic ANALOG channels to show up (channel 2 to 153) but NONE of the QAM channels as listed below.

Am I missing something? doing something wrong?

The only thing I can see that MAY be causing an issue is that the QAM scan says that its doing a CLEAR QAM scan ... maybe is this affecting something? is there a way to change it?

ANY help is greatly appreciated!

Is Media Center detecting your card as a digital cable tuner? Given that you're getting analog channels, I suspect not. You've likely got it acting as an analog tuner.

If the card is acting as a Clear QAM tuner, then try adding those channels manually to the guide and see if that helps. Maybe it's just the scan that's failing but the channels are really there.

From my experience, you're likely to get only standard definition channels with Cogeco Clear QAM. Depending on your area, you'll get better HD results with that tuner by using an antenna.

FYI, you're likely to get more knowledgeable support on this topic over at digitalhomecanada.com forums in the HTPC section. I'm personally no longer a Cogeco customer so can't give you any detailed help but there are plenty at DHC who likely can.
