Here in Windsor for the first opening week of Dark Shadows they were giving it the best showing times on the Imax theate over The Avengers. ( 7:10 vs 10:30 for the Avengers ). I just looked at the schedule for next week and it's the same.
Why would they continue to give the best time to show a movie that's not very good and is not getting any where close to the crowds that the Avengers are getting ? |

preety standard practise from what ive seen . new releases always get the imax / ultraavx theatres.
Dark Shadows looks decent. Dont blame the theatre for waiting this long to see the best movie of the summer |

I agree - in this case, it does not make sense. We saw Avangers last night in UltraAVX, but would have gone to IMAX if it were showing at normal times.
The theatre was very full last night. Avangers is still pulling in very large crowds - and not a young male crowd either, judging from what we saw last night. Dark Shadows (DS) is doing poorly, while Avangers is making some people very rich. They lost a little bit of $$$ from us, and possibly others who would have paid the extra for IMAX. Personal commitments prevented us from seeing it the first week. A one week run in IMAX for such a blockbuster seems......odd. |

I agree that does sound odd. The Avengers is raking in the dough. It made more in its 2nd weekend than most movies make in their first.
Seems like a bad decision by the business owner? When I was living in Edmonton the Dark Knight came out. Regardless of what came out in the weeks after it, all the ran were Dark Knight screenings in the prime time slots. That's what was filling the theatre. Regardless if Dark Shadows is good or not. The Avengers is definitely a bigger draw. |
