I saw in the upcoming Futureshop fire they have a "Wifi" signal booster, you plug it into the wall and it supposely picks up your wifi signal and re-transmits it further, not sure how well they work, but it may be a fix for the time being.

That would be known as a "repeater". That TP-Link WA-901ND I mentioned earlier includes a repeater function and, with 3 MIMO antennas, would likely outperform that booster. It also can use Power of Ethernet, with the included injector, so that it can be mounted where there's no AC handy. I use PoE for mine, which is mounted high on the wall in my laundry room.

We are still considering moving ALL our services over to Rogers.

So, I called Aliant Customer Service to verify that we only require a month's notice to do so. Suddenly, they became VERY interested in our problem and, subsequently, I have talked to 4 other techncians/customer solution agents. They are actually calling me !!

Still, no one seems to be able to answer my questions and no one is "authorized" to waive the $149 fee for a technician to come to the house and "check things out" - nice try, but no cigar.

At the moment, we are still sitting on the fence, and will probably wait until our remaining 5 months with Rogers contract expires, to re-visit this can of worms.

I hate having to buy services in a DUOPOLY

We have a very large multi level home/business (6000 sq.ft.) and had the same problem. We have several wireless devices connected to the system (7 computers, netflix, internet radio,TV's,wireless printers, iphones etc.) and we were getting a very poor or no signal in several parts of the house.
The Aliant tech recommended we purchase another router so I purchased a Linksys E4200V2 from Staples that is designed for larger buildings. It was about $150 but my problem is solved ! I get 5 bars in all areas of the house and even sitting in the driveway on my Iphone. This was a great fix and I'm now very happy with my wireless network.
