Well let's hope that's not true. These boxes should have had that feature included on release. Now years later still nothing. Yes they are def capable. Now if/when they do release an update to support it, it's going to be tough to reinstall lines for most. I was doing my basement at the time i got mine, so i had the forethought to run 2 cable lines and ethernet to all receivers (except one in the bedroom) so i'll be ok whichever route they use. Most people won't be so lucky. And the longer SD waits, the further behind they fall the competition. I'm already thinking of leaving. Anacac has IPTV coming soon which will have whole home on startup.

I am happy to see any progress on the HDPVR630 firmware. V7.33 was two steps forward, one step back. That's typical for a release that adds new features. A couple of similar releases and bug fix releases should bring the 630 up to par with Bell's offering. I don't see HH PVR arriving on the 630. It would introduce a host of new problems and the speed of the hardware may be an issue.

I would hope it wouldn't be a hardware speed issue. Like I said earlier, Motorola's own VIP12XX boxes went from being standard def, with a horribly slow, unresponsive guide to a whole home PVR, with a snappy HD guide with software changes only, except for the new remote controls on Sasktel's Max system. And the VIP boxes predate the Shaw Direct 6XX boxes by a couple years. I'd hope the Shaw Direct hardware would be at least as computationally capable.

We are coming up to 2 years since the 630 shipped.
I've gone back through the posts regarding 630 firmware releases and it appears the development cycle was 6 months until this last release. 00.13 upon initial release 04.06 Feb 16, 2011 06.22 Aug 30, 2011 07.33 June 2012 Here are my questions. Will anyone from Shaw Direct acknowledge that 07.33 introduced new bugs which have made the unit unstable? Will they confirm that Shaw Direct considers these new bugs important enough that they are accelerating their normal 6 to 10 month development cycle to fix the bugs introduced in 07.33? |

Tried to order the Hunger Games HD on a 630 and got Error 400. Tech had me unplug/replug the receiver, briefly got error 401, now getting error 400. Receiver states speed test of 5.2Mbps, but actual speed on other nodes is more like 25Mbps. In any event, can't order SD or HD. Please help!

I just wanted to add my name to those who have experienced this problem. It happened for the second time since the soft ware update a couple of days ago. It happend while watching Lets make a Deal on ch 322 on my 630 receiver. The voice portion continued but the picture remained frozen. The remote was unable to change channels or turn off receiver. Had to do a front panel reset to get things working again. Hopefully the next software update will address this problem.

I've had my picture freeze twice since the update. The first time I did a front panel reset, which fixed the problem.
The second time I waited it out. The picture remained frozen for somewhat less than a minute, then resumed. I was watching a recording the 2nd time and I rewound to a point previous to the lockup. It played correctly without freezing after this. I don't remember whether I was watching a recording or a live show the first time. |

According to the lady I spoke with in Customer Relations this morning when I cancelled my service, all the problems we've seen with the 630 since the June software release have been fixed.
All you have to do is a factory reset and a rehit and everything will be OK. She also told me the new satellite will be up in November, and the new satellite will bring 200 new channels all in HD. I'm going to go have lunch with Santa, the Easter Bunny and my local neighbourhood leprechauns now. |

Don't forget the household gremlins. Staying on their good side will keep them out of your equipment.

Something is wacky with the 7.33 software.
I experienced a similar problem as described by HowieDoin. This morning I discovered the 630 locked on channel 075 (NBC Detroit), one of the RECORD lamps was lit, the display said 10:00 (the actual time was 6:30), and the remote control would not effect the receiver. I did 2 panel resets that each resulted in a black screen. I then did a pull-the-plug and got the same result with 8:00 displayed on the 630 even though it was NOT 8:00. Later the problem resolved itself and it was back to normal. I discovered that a couple of shows scheduled to record last night didn't record. A movie, I scheduled to record prior to the 2 shows mentioned, recorded for six-hundred and some minutes. The PVR guide showed the movie lasted the correct amount of time with no indication of a problem, but playing the movie indicated a huge recording of 600+ minutes. I deleted the movie and the % of drive used decreased several percentage points. Last edited by RuralRouter; 2012-08-28 at 03:49 PM. |
