Default aliant tv receiver response time

does anyone else have a problem with slow response times on the aliant TV hd receiver? there is sometimes a 5 or 7 second delay from when i press the button, until the action is executed.

can this be fixed?

The PVR is notoriously bad when it comes to response time, mostly because it's doing so much. Non-PVR receivers are less bad but can still be at times a little laggy. There is nothing you can do to fix this, it's just the hardware itself.

Do you have more than one receiver? If you do, try switching your receivers around.

Do you have a fibreop connection and PVR?

@file, does the N56U improve this lag? I often see a few seconds delay when trying to call up the guide on PVR and non PVR STBs

From my experience with the N56U it doesn't improve the responsiveness of the box at all. It DOES improve the speed of the channels actually changing once it registers that you've 'selected' a channel.
So instead of
select -> black screen for a second or two -> video starts playing
the 'second or two' is noticeably faster

but as far as hitting guide, waiting 3-4 seconds (sometimes more) for it to kick in, it doesn't help at all

I am thinking very seriously of getting a fibreop bundle in NL, but this slow response time bothers me a lot. I love to surf the guide and change channels, and I would like to have an almost instantaneous response. Is this just unrealistic? Anyone in NL getting fast response times with or without a PVR? If so, what is your setup?

I find it erratic. Sometimes it responds quickly, and sometimes it doesn't. Not sure if there's any rhyme or reason to it. Browsing the guide generally doesn't get slow for me, though bringing it up can.

Thanks aleclerc! The information was helpful. I have the N56U but I have yet to install it. I am not sure if I really need it.

chr67, if you haven't noticed any issues with your setup It's hard to tell you to switch. The faster video wasn't my main reason for switching. I was doing some heavy downloading and because of that my PVR started acting up. Some stuff wouldn't tape, or would tape but when i went to play back it was a black screen... really just lots of inconsistent issues and even after BA swapped out hardware it didn't help. After installing the ASUS all those issues went away immediately. Some people also say the wifi in the ASUS is better although I never had a huge problem with it in the actiontec in the first place.

I agree with Tridus,I also find it very erratic. Most of the time its fine but once in a while everything slows down...not sure why. Overall though its pretty good and really can't complain.
