Default Changes at CKOC

Recently CKOC (AM radio in Hamilton, Ont.) was bought by Bell Media. Since then, they've started changing the format, including a lot of music that really does not fit in. However, what's much worse is they're now playing irritating ads for the various BM television shows. This, coupled with the changes in music is causing me to turn them off more and more. I'm not that far from turning them off permanently.

I was wondering why they started playing alot of schlocky 80's stuff. Too bad, they use to be really good.

I was tuning around AM very early this morning and heard an eighties song on CKOC and thought, ummmm.... this song deserves FM stereo and better sound.

Me thinks they're trying to kill it off so they can right it off as a loss.

CKOC's history reminds me of the heyday of AM Radio. The two stations that I think of for hits are CKOC and CKLW in Windsor, "The Big 8". :-)

Perhaps I'm imagining this but what ever happen to AM stereo? Did that ever take off? Are AM stations in stereo?

There were 4 different technologies competing to be the "standard" for AM Stereo. It came in when I was on the air in the 80's. Nobody could agree.. it died. I do remember a company car my wife had.. a Chrysler.. it had AM stereo and it sounded ok but nothing Like FM.. not enough room on the dial to do good channel separation..

And there was also the limited frequency response allowed on any AM signal.
