Started this thread so that people can report their findings rather than posting in various other threads...for the record, not getting any HD channels at this time myself....
Just checked Directv and it's showing the Leafs/Habs in SD only. They must be getting their feed from Shaw as well. I wonder if those people in Peterborough and Kingston, who have CORUS CBC feeds must be pissed. They received a waiver, from converting their signals to HD, on August 31st. No HD hockey for them, unless they have Bell.
with respect to this issue with Telesat -- I have checked most of my HD receivers and the handful of channels I have checked are coming in (I have not verified if they are remapped or not)
the question I have though is -- my PVR530 -- is not getting any of the HD channels -- I just get the acquiring signal.
buy my other HD boxes and my pvr 630 seem to be getting them fine -- anyone else see anything like that on the older PVR's?
Their automated system is kaput!! I needed to do a refresh on one receiver for a different reason & all I got was a message about the sat problem & then it disconnected me. If you have to do a refresh or a new receiver activation, you may be out of luck until this problem gets solved. It doesn't look like very good customer service when one problem creates a lot of other un-related issues instead of keeping the parts that aren't broken - unbroken??
Talk about dodging a bullet I activated a new receiver barely 24 hours before this mess hit I could have been sitting on that receiver for most of the weekend.
So this also screws up all recording I just figured out. I changed some around to record SD and can only get 1 tuner to record. Does that seem right based on the events?
The HD is slowly coming back, off and on, superchannel is there and then disappears again. I guess its a start. Now the question is, how are they going to compensate us, and why did saskatchewan have to watch global edmontons' news tonight when neither are HD??
Had to do a front panel reset in between hockey games, but 292 went from SD and 4:3 during the Habs game to HD for the Canucks game. All of the other HD channels seem to be working fine.

My 530 is very glitchy and I was starting to think it was about to pack it in... It won't change channels without resetting using the power button hold method. One channel change is all you get when it reboots and then if you try to change channels it shows sat sig loss. In the system status menu it shows 91db on the first sat but only 32db on the second one... my 630 shows good sig strength on both sats now so I know it's not my dish... weird.
From another reliable source, just passing in on to the group....
so I talked with a tech at Telsat today, and the word is that at 4am this morning one of the senior tech's sent the wrong command to the bird and off it went for a stroll thru the universe...

They are now saying the problem was caused by a software glitch that was uploaded to the satellite about one week ago... they are slowly fixing the problem.
If you called Shaw Direct there was a recorded message at least most of the afternoon into the early evening ... there was a serious communications problem with Anik2. The message said that technicians were working hard to restored signals.
I got all my HD channels back about 7:30 pm PDT. Watched the MLS game on Sportsnet 1 HD.
What is it with these Canadian satellite techs? Last month it was a Ciel tech in Saskatchewan that sent C1 for the same trip knocking most HD off Dish Network. Do we have a clandestine group of home grown terrorists in training or just plain incompetence?
I'm wondering if some of the receiver-specific problems that are being described in this thread might be due to sun transit rather than the Anik F2 problem. The two phenenomena are, oddly enough, occuring at the same time, yet are seemingly unrelated. I experienced some similar situations (spontaneous rebooting, missing guide, etc.) with my DSR-319 last spring when the sun and the satellites were in alignment. The problems finally ceased after sun transit ended.
I have a home rolled PVR attached to a DSR505. I use the 505's auto-tune to tune different shows each week.
Last night (Thu Oct 6) none of the auto-tunes to HD channels happened, whereas the auto-tunes for SD channels did happen. I expected the auto-tune to work on all channels, and expected to see a blank screen/error message for the HD channels that were out.
Also, I didn't have an SD feed substituted for my missing HD feeds. I just had the "acquiring signal" message.
SERVICES RESTORED
ON TELESAT’S ANIK F2 SATELLITE AFTER ANOMALY
OTTAWA, CANADA, October 7, 2011 – Telesat confirms that, following a
technical anomaly that occurred on its Anik F2 satellite early yesterday, customer
services on Anik F2 were restored late last evening and over night.
Satellite anomalies like the one that affected Telesat’s Anik F2 yesterday are
highly unusual. This particular anomaly was the result of a software error
encountered during a routine maneuver which triggered the satellite to place
itself into a safe mode, shutting itself down and pointing itself at the sun to ensure
it remained powered. The software error that led to the anomaly appears to have
been caused by a software update that was recently provided by the satellite
manufacturer. That particular software update was not re-loaded onto the
satellite.
Try a soft reset or a 5 minute unplug. I noticed two of my 505's still had the clock wrong this morning. They hadn't been used during and after the outage. A simple power ON and let it sit for 5 minutes reset the clock.
lost recording because of outage resheduled on its own!
my wife is a Coronation St addict and was disapointed that the HD feed did not record last night because of the satellite outage. later I noticed that it was scheduled to record it when it is rebroadcast at 3AM I guess the PVR630 is smarter than I thought.
Can anyone with a 600 series receiver please confirm that all channels are back up and running, and not remapped channels please? I would like to watch NHL CI tonight. Missed the philly boston game last night and wasn't to thrilled about that, I especially wanted to see the banner being raised.
Watched the leafs habs game on ch 300 in HD BTW. I'm in Ontario watching on a 630.
