@binary1010, I think they got the footnotes screwed up. I think it's the same as Lightning 20:

Footnote 4 should apply to regular Lightning since there is no footnote 5. |

binary1010, if you have MTS Internet without TV, then you are on ADSL right now. I think you have to be in a VDSL or VDSL2+ area for Lightning 10. That's what select areas means and includes 95% of Winnipeg households.
Are you eligible for Lightning 10 or Ultimate TV when you put in your home phone number? |

If you aren't able to get MTS TV, that means MTS probably hasn't upgraded your area to VDSL2. As far as I know, MTS isn't doing any more VDSL2 upgrades - they are going with Fibre to the Home (FTTH), as discussed in this thread. That includes new housing developments in Winnipeg as well as the communities discussed in that thread.

Last week I got an e-mail from MTS offering an upgrade to Lightning 20 for 6 months for free. (I'm on Lightning 10 now).
Speed hasn't been a real issue for me, but I can't argue with the price. Right? |

Wow, MTS has now offered slower speeds at a higher price!
The 32 Mbps Bolt plan was $57, but now you have to pay $60 for the 20 Mbps plan. How crazy is that! Even $50 for only 10 Mbps is horrible. I keep thinking Shaw might be the way to go, but I had a bad experience with them years ago. I also do a lot of downloading and Shaw seems to throttle and have bw limits. It's a bit of a monopoly here with those two companies. Manitoba needs at least 1 more ISP. |

Having had both as providers in the past decade - I'd stick with MTS. MTS doesn't cap their data at all, and I find that I can count on the promised speed (especially lately) at any time of day/week.
MTS also has better upload speeds. |

Yes, the upload speed is important to me as I do often upload high volume files for clients, and I like the consistent speed vs MAYBE higher during low volume times.
MTS has been hinting on the phone to me that the unlimited bandwidth cap may not last that much longer unfortunately. I think the last couple years have been the sweet spot for being an MTS customer, but I think things are going to tighten up in the next year or two for users (much higher prices and bandwidth caps). |

The fact that they now have started advertising their lack of data cap would suggest they are going to use it as a marketing tool, not advertise and then suddenly change their minds...
I can't imagine a change in this policy for at least another two years. |

I agree, probably a couple years max, but it's coming and I'm not looking forward to it.
