From a technology perspective it's *really* easy for them to do this and implement it, without causing congestion. They could if they wanted to offer bursting up to 1Gbps with a commitment of your package speed over the fiber. Lots of control available.

Seriously, not everywhere will get fiber (it just doesn't make sense), and they are deploying as fast as they can.

Then you hope the server you're pulling from can actually dish out that kind of transfer speed.

This could be interesting. Wouldn't take advantage of this too often but I could see myself using it now and then (if it was the 150mbps for 2 hours for 99c).

to me it sounds pointless. with the basic 30/30 connection a can download a 8-10GB file in under 30-50 minutes. i can see you someone wanting a speed improvement for downloading files 30-50GB big but how often does anyone download files that big? and if you do download files like that often you might as well upgrade to the 50/30 plan

it's 70/30 not 50/30 and they also have a 250/30 plan

Some servers might be able to handle the speed boost, but a lot won't. I have High Speed Max DSL and i barely ever hit 10 Mbit on the PSN server for game downloads ... i think Steam could handle it easily tough, i've seen it hit 15 Mbit constant for quite a good time lapse...

Yeah the steam servers can dish it out fast. Sometimes I've had to hop around to different ones to get the best speeds. I've had them hit 8.7MB/s sustained a few times.
