Does anyone own this yamaha receiver. I really(really!)love the sound out of my denon.I need a new reciever to keep me up with the times(i also need it so i can bitstreem samsung bd-p1400 to it) ,Iam not talking about price .what do you boys think?I use my reciever 90% for movies. They had another yamaha there i think it was a v867? for almost half the price. I just don't want to cheap myself,I know buying a new reciever is a big,BIG part of my theater room.
As you've stated if price don't matter to you then by all means the Yamaha 3800 is a great receiver. I don't think you'll be dissapointed one bit. IMHO the 3800 will sound alot better than your current Denon 787. Have you had a chance to demo a 3800 yet?
At this pricepoint, I wouldn't touch any AVR with outdated chipsets.
Wait for the new AVRs with the latest chipsets coming soon from companies like B&K, Sherwood Newcastle, Outlaw, Emotiva and others. The newest NADs have them but will require a board swapout in the next 6 months or so to utilize all the new codecs.
Thanks for your opinion Donny.Fuzz. I didn't listen to the receiver. Told my salesman what i was looking for in a reciever and he showed me the RXV3800B.After 10 minutes of talking to him he had me sold.So i walked away.I don't impulse buy today.Posting this thread is me doing the investigating on the reciever also been reading as much data i can find.I don't want to have regrets of any purchase 4 years down the road, you know what i mean brother.
I am an owner of Yamaha RXV 3800. This receiver is awesome. You may have to have the firmware upgraded depending on the unit you get. The ones that require an upgrade are the ones that produce a popping sound when playing a DTS HD MA encoded discs. I had mine upgraded and that eliminated the popping sound issue.
Thanks, finally a owner of this reciever ,What would i say to the salesperson to find out if its been upgraded.Does the upgrade have a name(i hope that doesn't sound stupid)do you have a blu-ray and have you had any problems with handshake between the hdmi?
Talking to a salesperson regarding firmware upgrade may not help you much. You can always call Yamaha and ask for the link where you can download the firmware upgrade if your unit needs it. They would be able to tell you that as well.
I have no problem with hdmi handshake. I have a Samsung Dou player (Blu ray and HD DVD), Rogers HD PVR, and an Optoma projector all connected to it via HDMI and I have had no problem.
Through some research this is where iam Yamaha RXv3800B,Pioneer elite 94,Marnntz sR700(two hdmi out)and denon 3808.So i have a lot of work ahead of me ,wish me luck. From what i understand there all great recievers i just want the best one( Time to start looking and comparing specs and reviews)this could took take sometime but in the end i know i'll make the right choice( God be willing)Thanks for your help sam
